Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Hopeless

I am one of those who are more resilient and hopeful when it comes to changes but I guess everyone has a breaking point. I am now very eager to look for a job somewhere else than ever before. I am grateful for the opportunity and the money that I made working for this company and I used to say I just need to work for money. I used to like working for this company but recently I just want to find something else. Businesses by nature are built to make money and contribute to the economy. But often we also forget that we have real people working who has also the need to feel they belong, motivated to work not only for the money, and have a sense of pride and ownership. However, how would you feel the pride and ownership when the thought of losing your job next day keeps you awake at night, makes you feel worthless and always on the edge. There is no support system within because you cannot speak out openly because you might get booted out for it, you cannot have an honest conversation with your peers and people leader because you need to say the things they wanted to hear to avoid conflict, you cannot reach your full potential because you never feel empowered because your are just a low level employee or an easily disposable contractor. For years, I tried to pretend I trusted everyone and believe every word they say because it is easier to pretend than to be honest to avoid conflict. I wanted to think that the crash of oil price has everything to do with the never ending changes for the past 3 yrs. But when I look within the industry, sure the economy is in a much worst place than 3 yrs ago but other companies had managed to keep their employee morale to a tolerable state. I aksed many people within the company on how they think and feel about the changes and sure I am not crazy of feeling disposable, helpless and weary on what is going on. We are spending so much effort and waste time on trivial office safety rules to a point that it is already overkill. It is like everyone is going to work at actual construction site or facilities. The ones who had pleased more managers and directors are the ones to keep the job, the invisible ones are disposable. People are working less and less efficiently and cannot be honest with the actual time they worked anymore because that is how sleepless nights, worry and anger manifests. Some people just couldn’t get the job done right anymore because they are so distracted and some are just plain entitled. I guess the layoffs is the new norm and the low morale will be our normal standard.

I'd be very curious who you posters are? All seem to come across as fairly low level. Any of you make at least Director level yet?

I would wait for my douschbag boss to retire, but the next guy in line is........ well you guessed it .....another douschbag. So I am putting my resume out there and if I don’t get a job I will let Justin take care of me for a wile, this job has broken my spirits.

I was laid off from Enb last year and I would never work for them again. It was once a good company, but it was toxic when I left. I was just a number.

Reading accounts on here, it's gotten worse.

I've got a different opinion than many that are posting here. Was laid off in 2014 and was lucky to find a job with E. Maybe I'm just lucky but I really enjoy my job. I have a great boss that helps with the crazy workload which is good because it is a bit nuts right now. I don't mind it though cause it is very interesting work. Pay is better than I had at my previous company and there is a better opportunity for promotion. Of course there is always the usual complaints. More late nights than i want and it is sad to see colleagues leave. Would love the stock to be doing better. However, compared to where i came from, Enbridge is actually a lot better on all of these things. The grass is not always greener and all that. Before throwing in the towel, consider how you can make your job and the problems you see better. If you have tried or there is nothing you can do then maybe it's time to go.

It's tough for me because I am slammed with an overwhelming amount of work, it's not easy to "not try so hard" because then you are not meeting expectations and have to deal with it every day. It's not like a situation where you would be trying hard to go above and beyond...its what is expected. That's my situation right now unfortunately..

Very well written. Agreed with completly. This has now become a company that is lost with very poor leadership. The future is not good, start looking and get out.

It is really nice once in a while that people are trying to support and encourage each other, at least at this forum you get honest opinions. No BS, sugar coated statements. By the way, one of the comments here is right on spot - the talent will be gone once the economy gets better coz in my group we already lost a lot (more than a dozen at least) employees and contractors who left on their own for better offers since last year. I also heard rumors already of some job offers from enbridge being turned down by applicants. Even I am looking for right opportunity outside too. When my friends asks me about working here, I just say that if you have a job where you are happy and pay you decent money don’t bother applying here. This is a good and decent company that somehow became some circus in the last 3 yrs.

Hey buddy, I know how you feel. In this situation here is my recommendations:

1) don't try so hard, much less stress and you can sleep at night

2) laugh at your boss, they're an idiot

3) your colleagues are there for you. you both know you're boss is an idiot

4) you're going to be a valued performer anyways right. If not, then collect the layoff bonus and freeload on EI for a while. You pay into that all your life.

In the meantime prepare for the next move, save some cash, develop yourself. You'll find a good job fairly easily if you were able to get one at Enbridge.

The economy will recover, and the good employees will be gone. This company is going to go through tough times when all of the actual talent is gone and they are stuck with nothing but mindless butt kissers. People don’t forget when they are treated like garbage.

To the last comment - read the post before you blah blah blah with leaving. You must be one of those who charge 60 hours a week with so much less actually worked. You must really like your job eh. Original post said is looking for a job.

I know how you feel. When I came to Enbridge I thought it was a great place, now I just have to check my workday at the front door and remind myself it’s just what I do to support my family.
