That can't be right because shrinking the enrollments will make the deal unworkable with Cogswell. It is written in the transfer agreement.
The purpose of the teach out is to get DeVry to a small enough size so it can be managed by current staff levels at Cogswell. Shrink the company then transfer ownership.
Adtalem will cut its costs related to severance payments/layoffs and teach-outs by handing it over to cogswell.
It's probably about the money: a teach out would require continued campus costs and costs of faculty/staff...Handing over $7M to Cogswell allows them to write off a lost and be out from under on-going costs.
....assuming that the deal goes through. It's still fragile, isn't it?
I can understand a two-year teachout. But I don't understand why Adtalem would involve Cogswell in such a plan. What's to be gained by DeVry not doing the teachout itself? Surely not the name, Adtalem changed its name so that it WOULDN'T be DeVry anymore. Now, they've done the same with Brazilian schools. To avoid admission of failure, is all I can come up with.

I read the agreement that one of the managers carelessly left on the table after a meeting.
we already knew about this last summer....its was part of the teach out
Yes, and for 2-3 students, I was expected to make a 5 hour commute (there/back) not once, but twice each week...no....buh-bye...
Even if the part about a 2 year teach out plan is made up, the truth is DeVry can't continue for long. No class on my campus has more than 5 or 6 students with many having just 2 or 3 students. How do the doors remain open with those numbers?

Well, if it's a confidential agreement...how did you find out? Who's to say you're right, and that you're not just making this up?

If what you say is true...that's a cushion remaining faculty might be able to use to move on...at least they'll know there's a date certain for the end.
They should close the entire fake university.
