Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

Must read

I can't believe people are not aware of the truth of what a "for profit school" really is ??? sorry to burst anyone bubble, but DV is a BUSINESS. I'm so surprise certain employees don't believe this. I have been with DV for 10 years now. I have seen 5 layoffs during that period, so any new employees that just started in the last year. The lay off are coming! I can't stand, these Town Hall meeting and Q & A emails we receive about the whole transition. Someone asked in the last Town Hall meeting back in Dec 2017, "Are we expecting layoff?".....and the answer, " We don't expect it but our organization structure is based on students = profits = shareholders ......YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.

Why can't the end result be.......wait for it......students!!!

Usually, in the event of a layoff. It will happen on a Thursday or Friday at 9 am. The Town Hall will go in detail, why DV went this route. But we all know! You ID badges will be deactivated the night before (in some cases), and management will know the day before.

The final attempt for DV to bounce back was the Tech Path platform pricing. Home Office was expecting an increase with the reduction in tuition cost. But by the November session, Home Office was not at there break even point. How do you expect to attract students, with no continuing marketing of the Tech Path. word of mouth, c'mon.

This was posted by @S2SVLmC-5qot in another thread, but it needed to be in a thread of its own for more people to see it. Good explanation and good info.

@S9TXp29-1zhu that will never happen because this company is all about money to the exclusion of everything else including their staff and students. I am not sure when the school lost sight of its purpose, but its sad that a school that had a future basically was ruined by poor management. And staff and students are the ones to suffer.

Devry should stop taking federal loans altogether, that is the root of the problem. Devry can bill students a little during the training & bill them at a greater rate once they get their degree. Split it into 1/4 during school & 3/4 after. That would eliminate a lot of waste & be an incentive to do things properly.

Yes , indeed.

People create their own experience by the way they think. Each person experiences life differently because each person's thinking is unique.

This the reality of doing business. Some do it very well like Tesla. And some start right then get of track and fail. I wonder how many of the employees that blame management would do it differently.

If you think you can , be honest, is life OK? . Are you happy ?

Are you doing well managing your family affairs?

The list is long ..... If you are , believe me you will do well with or without Devry.

If not , then be humble and try to fix your business before getting in others.

He or she without sin should cast the first stone.

IT’S NOT REALITY THAT MAKES US SUFFER; IT’S OUR THOUGHTS ABOUT REALITY

@S9TXp29 - if you've been with DeVry for 10 years and only saw 5 lay-offs you missed quite a few. In half the time I saw 11 RIFs. You are correct when you state that DeVry is a business, but that should not be an excuse to provide poor service to customers (students). When business is slow, organizations and institutions will have to take measures to align cost - it's basic economics and common sense. However, less greedy organizations understand that cost cutting at the expense of the customer will be fatal to the organization. DeVry's programs are outdated and they missed many opportunities to differentiate themselves from other institutions. Greed is what killed this University - and it's a shame!
