Thread regarding Cabela's Inc. layoffs

I think the goverment in Sidney can be very helpful in doing their part to help the situation.

Recently the Sidney school board met to discuss ways to lower spending to address the economic situation in Sidney Nebraska. . This is just a start however it is a step in the right direction. This policy also need to be followed by the city of Sidney and Cheyenne country . I think the policy of all government divisions in the Sidney area should be to limit government spending to the very minimum with the primary focus to be to lower spending and to retain as many city or county employees as we can. Yes new police cars , new golf carts , sweetheart deals to investors in regard to the bar at the golf course etc and so on will probably be no longer.

So you are a dropout?

I imaging the number of families leaving Sidney should be impacting enrollment rates at the schools. Class consolidation could mean layoffs of teachers.

It's not cutting back educational programing if you read the article. Also there is may school rating tools avaialbe, unfortunately the one quoted earlier has a couple of former studnets trolling. The assessment data is good and drop out rate is very low. It looks like the dropouts are the ones who have the time to post on forums.

The school system is doing as they must. The city of Sidney is business as usual with the exception they are talking to some people who are discussing ways the city of Sidney can offset some of their business losses

Was the last statement from the city manager or one of the investors in the bar at the golf course. The original statement was common sense what need to be done.

Sidney schools have terrible ratings. 5 out of 10. How are you going to attract new businesses to Sidney with schools that no one wants to send their kids to? Now they are going to cut back funding to their schools. Very short-sighted.

The college drop out rate for Sidney HS students is very high. The HS does not prepare these kids for college and they quickly fall behind.

The Sidney school leadership is all about sports. You never hear a word about academics...they act like all these kids are going to go the NBA or NFL. They worship the jocks and kids who are smart are ignored. School leadership are all wanna- be jocks that are vicariously living through the kids. It's sad.

I agree. Let's start by cutting back on the education we are giving our kids.
