Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

Response to poster MODUS OPERANDI

This in response to a post by modus operandi @RZCJYzH-jyl

I respectfully disagree with you.

You're certainly entitled to your own opinion but I must advise you NOT to convey information that is not factual.

"they take credit for things they had nothing to do with (like the four year agreement made BY THE CITY NOT THE UNION.)"

That is NOT true. I know for a fact that CWA pushed for this condition to be included in the agreement. It was Altice that adamantly opposed to having that condition included.

CWA suggests that the Commission go beyond its determination........and require that Altice not be allowed to cut any jobs “whose work has a direct impact on service quality.”

"You don't have to look far to see how union big wigs have brainwashed their members much better than hilbur ever could."

It's pretty ironic that you actually believe that union members are the one's that are brainwashed. You seem to have absolutely no idea what management and Hilbur has been doing to employees. For decades, management has been successfully brainwashing most of us into believing that having a "direct relationship" is always in our best interests.

Nothing can be further of from the truth.

The truth is that the company is and will always be concerned with their interests, not ours.

They achieve this by any means necessary. Even if they have to break the law.

Let me see if I can educate just a little:

Cablevision has been found guilty of unfair labor practices on multiple occassions over that past several years.

  • 2012 - Dolan gives illegal raises to employees (to prevent Bronx from going union)

  • 2013 - 22 Brooklyn techs illegally fired for calling a meeting with HR.

  • 2014 - 6 Bronx OSP techs illegally transferred out of the depot for union activity.

  • 2015 - Jericho TSR rep illegally fired after attempting to unionize the call center.

  • 2016 - Hauppauge sales rep fired for attempting to unionize sales dept. (case pending before judge right now)

Hilbur is and will continue to be there #1 asset. Just read through these court cases and see how intimately involved he is in carrying out all of the company's dirty deeds.

The chilling effect this has had across the workforce in addition to their constant anti-union rhetoric has been extremely effective. (for them)

Since you claim that you know what's going on industry wide, you should then realize and understand why it would be important for all employees across the footprint to protect ourselves by unionizing. Brooklyn & Oakland by themselves isn't enough. We'd have much more bargaining power if all shops were united.

Some people refer to Altice as a "sinking ship" or "the titanic". I don't fully agree with that. If or when the Altice ship sinks, another MSO will be left with the task of servicing 3 million customers, which means there will still be a need to have boots on the ground.

Why not ensure that it's our boots on the ground in a legally binding contract?

Do you still believe that they have our best interests?

You think they don't already have future plans to negatively change the terms & conditions of our employment?

Have you not been paying any attention to what they've done here since September 2015?

Brooklyn has been under a CBA for 3 years now. Hilbur tells everyone that it's been nothing but doom and gloom for them. Really? If that were true, why haven't they decertified? What's stopping them?

Too few of us really understand what's really going on.

Too many of us can't see past next week's paycheck.

GOD help us all.

out.

While Altice USA has maintained that ATS offers greater opportunities for advancement and training, some unions have worried that it would allow the company to lay off workers at will. Altice USA had pledged in New York not to lay off any customer-facing employees for three years, part of the conditions it agreed to in winning New York Public Service Commission approval of its June 2016 purchase of Cablevision Systems.

Like I said CWA expressing concern does not mean they get credit for what the city already asked for long before it was even a CWA thought.

Furthermore I never said these companies are saints, I said union is no better. You try to pick the lesser of two evils period.

I too can go copy and post the many wrongs IBEW and CWA have done to members but I won’t waste my time. Because I see that the many jabbas of the world like yourself will go down defending a lie until they are homeless and broke.

My overall point is simply that union cannot save you or change anything. God help those who can’t see that.
