Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Enbridge is a great company to work for

It's really too bad that there have been so many people laid off over the past few years. Many good people were lost. However, there is no company that exists that is going to watch out for your best interest. Enbridge takes care of their employees with the payroll packages and benefit packages, vacations, SDO, AWA, etc. It all really tops any other company in the industry. That's what makes the layoff so upsetting. Sounds like severance packages have also been very generous. Losing a job can lead to better things down the road. I've been there.

Enbridge is not managed right.

The only thing left is layoffs and replacing Al Monico and many managers and VP in Toronto.

Amalgamation between Enbridge and Spectra have to take place fast. There are many duplicates.

What’s taking so long.

What about VP's and directors ? If billable hours are a primary basis for determining who should and should not go then managers should be on top of the list. They are the most expensive overhead cost.

Although VPs and Directors went out of their way to stress the latest round wasn't about performance, if your task is to cut 20% of labour you turn to your managers and team and look at three things : billable hours, workload, job performance.

If you want a shot at keeping your job you need to get your hours covered by a billable project or maintenance billable to a shipper AND be seen as doing more than 40hrs a week AND don't screw around.

AWA are frowned upon in the US, but in Canada, AWA are engrained in the culture. VP of Canadian Ops is on AWA. Plus 12 SDO so it’s virtually impossible to reach anyone in Edmonton Tower ever for ‘support’. It seems like 10% of the people do 90% of the work in certain groups in Edmonton. This company is at risk because the support teams aren’t evenly spread across both countries. Some groups have it together, some don’t.

EVERY VP and high majority of management highly frowns upon AWA. Otherwise, we would all take that 2nd Friday off!

BTW, we have a person in our group working the 9/80 - this person gets every 2nd Friday off and never works an 8 hour day. It pisses me off.
