Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Spectra Layoffs

There were layoffs in TEXAS FOR former spectra employees. At least 35 of them in compressor stations.

They were not allowed to return to there desk and walked out. Most of these ppl had between 20-30yrs of service.

Why did Enbridge buy spectra? Because Enbridge was sinking and needed a profitable company to s--- the life out off on its way down

Oh, how I wish these layoff, and asset sales for that matter, weren’t about desperation. But they are.

Our competitors are still cheaper than us.

There is no way these layoffs are about desperation. If these layoffs are intended to save the company, then God help us cause we are all going down. This is a $50B pipelin company that probably has one of the largest market cap to workforce ratios in North America. Saving a couple mill here or there on workforce is not going to save this ship if it's sinking. These layoffs are about efficiency, moving to a low cost structure as compared to our competitors. If I was TransCanada i'd be worried. ENB is trimming down and can do it better and cheaper. look out

You just turn on the pipeline and flow it? Bless your heart. Your cornbread ain't done in the middle. Go home son.

To the person who posted the “one trick pony” comment...you make it sound like the powers-that-be are conducting their actions based on a master strategy to ensure Enbridge’s success into the future.

Dude, that’s SO not what happened. Through really bad planning and some big egos, Enbridge took on more debt than it could handle. Ever since, it has been scrambling through a series of knee jerk reactions to find ways to improve the balance sheet and shore up the stock price.

We’re operating from a position of desperation, not strength.

I don't think there is much "talent" at enbridge. It's a pipeline you just turn it on and it flow lol. Not rocket science here

My perspective is that the VPs have turned their brains off, and have been cowed into submission by the ELT. They know we’ve cut staff to the bone in some areas and that it’s no longer safe, but are afraid to say anything.

Not sure I buy the part about Enbridge being fat and inefficient before. There was some of that, for sure. But some of that so-called “fat” was needed to maintain safe operations. I think they’ve cut too much in that area now, and I worry. I think we could use some of those one-trick ponies back here. They knew what they were doing.

When I look around, mediocre, particularly among the senior management, is all I can see.

I’m hoping that some leadership and vision will rise from the ashes.

This company needs it.

Sure. But why, then, did they get rid of all the top notch talent?

Seems to me that the most rewarded skill at Enbridge is the ability to manage up. The people will the real drive and insight have now been dismissed.

So true. Guys Enbridge is very good to us, we should stop taking it for granted and give them the best we have to offer. Company success translates to our personal success we are all in the same boat. Let's stop spreading hate and instead spread love and dedication to our cause. Delivering energy that people need to fuel their lives. That is greater than any of this small stuff

Enbridge needed Spectra as bad as Spectra needed Enbridge and both need radical change. The 'old way' of both companies is not sustainable and thus those 'good ole day' are long gone. Only the blind and entitled can't see that. That's a tough pill to swallow for you one-trick-ponies who have mediocred your way to 'decades of handwork and loyalty'. The old fat and inefficient companies could afford your mediocrity and one-trickedness, the new businesses cannot. You're displacing your anger at Enbridge, you're really mad at yourself and your situation., likely living way outside of your means. The truth of the matter is that you were compensated by your employer over 'years' or you wouldn't have stayed, thus you are owned nothing. The gig is up for the mediocre and inefficient throughout Enbridge.

Enbridge execs don’t have a clue. With all the layoffs of experienced people. They will turn the company into PGand E when a major explosion happens and all the cost reductions would

Wiped out in a second

Spectra employees are grazing sheep and they don't even know the slaughter is upon them. It will start soon with a few hundred head gone. But the big slaughter hits once Spectra's 18 month terms and conditions period ends. After that, the 50% lower ENB severance kicks-in and the feast begins for the hungry wolves. Wolves don't need no stinking integrity and respect to survive. Patience. A clear head, violin and perhaps a nice Chianti. You run with the pack and don't challenge the alpha or you're gone. Sheep aren't assets. Pipelines are.

pension plan is not guaranteed, just look at the link in the other thread about how underfunded the pension plan is. Directors and above have their own pension.

Some of the comments on here make me shake my head and feel embarrassed about working alongside so many entitled complainers. If you don't like it leave. CLueless to think that a company owes you anything other than the generous pay you've been getting for decades (hello Defined Benefit pension plan!). Most of my cowrokers have no idea how good they have it and probably never will.

What a way to thank employees for their decades of hardwork and loyalty. ENB there is no need to insult those that fed you and your families for years. Didn’t realize the Respectful Workplace Policy was only for us minnions. Shameful.

Yes, that's what's happening! ENB is looking for cash cows. SE with their regulated businesses looked like an attractive compliment to the sh-- show of liquids. Look at renewables - massive divestment and only keeping regulated return assets. It's a cash decision.

So, with that in mind - is gas collector systems regulated returns?
