Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

Trends in ENB staff reductions

Beyond Our Energy Future gave us the initial outline - a compressed upper management, less titles and new money goes to field work rather than consultants and latte machines in Calgary.

Then Spectra happened on the heels of that. A massive purchase that needs to be absorbed and fit into the new BOEF philosophy. So, we saw shared services go. I suspect gas colleagues this was a very bitter pill to swallow.

Then the Crown Jewels divestment and new 3 year plan. The trend is becoming clear: if you're a back office or support staff role (I.e. Public Affairs, Comms, Law, Community Investment, enviro, Lands, BD) or not directly connected to billable projects or operations (I.e. Calgary, Edmonton, Houston or Toronto head offices), I would be nervous. You're playing the waiting game.

If your role is tied to a billable project or operations or safety and you're in a region and you're in those "Crown Jewels" you have some options.

As projects come to an end (line 3!) expect more of the same. As the absorption of SE continues more shared services attrition will happen. Expect a disproportionate amount of future layoffs at corporate Locations.

IPLE has not had significant reductions. Work hard and leadership will give you what you deserve.

I hear ya. ENB is cherry picking what is most cost effective from SE processes not really looking at the bigger picture. SE culture was different and regulated gas was even more different. Then ENB comes to town with their circus of issues looking for a lifeboat and they swamp it all. I think everyone in this company needs to start looking for their next opportunities.

The even sadder part is that this "absorption " as you call it is a significant part of the problem. Spectra processes, processes and culture are 10 years ahead of the same at Enbridge and if only the leadership would realize that we could right the sinking ship. Sadly the Enbridge way is the only way and it is very upsetting to 1/3 of the company, being the legacy Spectra group, that they have to regress considerably and have no influence to help make things much better.
