How does WD motivate employees to work hard with such brutal work environment and low pay? There is always fear of layoffs for employees and not many perks. How are people at WD motivated to work???

Everyone in my group comes after 10:30 in the morning and leaves before 5:00 everyday. Thank you WD for letting us slack!

I think it depends on where you work, and what your job is. If you are not happy with what your doing or getting paid, nobody is making you stay. Sure, its hard to be on the street looking for work, but its always better to get a new job while your still employed. So, you like working here, how do you keep your job? Be a contributor. Add to the imaginary roadmap. Be proactive. Be a star performer, and also network within the company. Don't abuse the privilege of unlimited vacation, but take time to recharge when you can. And remember, if your not busy, your doing something wrong. I can't say that I know anyone that is slacking.
