Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Total Walmart Layoffs Count: 20,000 laid off this year by Walmart, yet the media is silent

I did the numbers based on what I know/heard: Total Cut Cout: 1K (HO Corp Jobs) + 10K (60+ Sams Stores Closed) + 3.5K (Co-Managers Laid off this week) + 5.5K (other management positions at Sams) = 1K+10K+3.5K+5.5K = 20K -- so the total is 20K, not a beep in the media. The stock market is peaking, it's all dandy, we are cutting taxes, etc. I do not want to make this into a political issue, both parties are responsible here - I just want some recognition and someone needs to realize that:

THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM FOR OUR SOCIETY!!!

They are still cutting jobs in the stores.... Yeah I’m sure that’s going to do wonders for customer service.

So let me get this straight. They’ve fired tons of people in ISD and outsourced labor to either H1Bs or Bangalore. Meanwhile our systems still s--- and the website is hard to shop compared to Amazon. Check.

We’ve poured money and headcount into dot com but it’s still only around five percent of the business. Check.

We spent billions on other dot com companies to help boost online sales. But once we’ve started comping ourselves, we stop growing as fast. Check.

Meanwhile the store business, which has been growing and is the heart of the business, is being hollowed out to blow money on strategies that don’t appear to be working in the dot com arena. Check.

By the way, if Walmart were really smart, they’d be pushing for higher wages and more vacation for workers. What do they think created the middle class? Customers with money and free time shop.

Customers without free time seek out convenience (Amazon) and cheap goods (Aldi/Lidl). The decline of the middle class will be what kills Walmart-not its competitors.

They cut the z position over the front end and the dept manager over wireless. They also eliminated dept managers in pets and automotive. With 5,000 stores those four position s means another 20,000 were eliminated. Some probably took other jobs but I bet most people are jobless

Well you worked for the company and know they consider their trucks running up and down the highways to stewards of the company. Reason for the advertisements all over them. Express your self to them they will report it to ho.

With your math skills (or lack of) it's understandable why you were laid off.

Don't undermine the real impact to real people by posting bogus numbers that support your bias/agenda.

Media silent on your made up numbers....go figure.

That 1K is 0.5K now, and 0.5K later - still a thousand though...

Don’t wait for media to pick it up. Find news outlets you trust, local and national and worldwide, and send them the info. Email, Twitter, Facebook, online form, letter to the editor, contact them. Help get the story out there.

I know a lot of Sam's managers are being let go this week but where did u get 5.5k from? Also 500 jobs were cut at HO, not 1000. But they said possibly 500 more cuts by 2019, just hasn't happened yet.

Fox News told me that the corporate tax cut would lead to hiring. Was that fake news?
