Thread regarding Viacom Inc. layoffs

Layoffs Start Tomorrow: Just under a 1,000 workers will be laid off...

This is what I heard:

  • It starts tomorrow

  • No dpt is spared

  • The number will be between 900 and 1,000

  • There will be another round in about 3 moths

  • Unchanged severance terms

Take all of this with a grain of salt, it's a rumor but I wanted to share what's being discussed next to the water cooler. Good luck.

MTS IS A JOKE, run by the Donald Trump of IT. Dude has no idea what he is doing, and his band of cronies are no better. If they want to save money, chop off the heads first and replace them w competent managers who respect and listen to their staff.

yes its been quiet :

bosses acting funny (hiding) avoiding conversation

people acting strange .

the people playing the game (poker)

there are consultants everywhere

this layoffs is in every water cooler talk.

something is up ..weather is this website or not ..something is definably up

We're losing 3 people on our overall team including one of my direct reports. I've been told it would happen for us 2/1 or 2/8. Was stated that the dismissals would be immediate unlike 3 years ago when there was some lag time. Boss also said we won't have much warning as to when we'll have to deliver the news. Good Times.

A colleague is close friends with a higher ranking HR person and was told the same about when the layoffs would start.

I have noticed it has become very quiet in recent days with regards to emails, meetings, etc.

That layoffs are happening or timing? Major layoffs were out in the press last week. About timing, hearing from multiple people who were not even aware of this site. It also makes sense with the earnings call, end of the “outside consulting group” finishing their report and the discussion about CBS merger. As always, things change, but isn’t the purpose of this page to post what you’ve heard?

Latest I heard was that layoffs were supposed to happen starting today (Thurs) but may have gotten pushed back to Tues. the CBS meeting was a regularly scheduled board meeting but the Viacom earnings call is next Thurs, so it would make sense to do the layoffs before that call.

So today CBS is supposed to meet and may discuss merger. Having a huge layoff the same day seems odd. But what do I know.

have to say one thing for the workers at Viacom...reading this Shhht.

the people here could just be talking Shht ...or NOT

instigating and disgruntled..

there are many disgruntled people here .true..holly cow .

their world has changed .....its NOT the 1980's Viacom revolutionary .

Its a new company trying to re-invent itself ..expect change

take it day by day ...don't worry too much. everything will be alright .

take time off , take advantage of your benefits and your health , see your doctor, do what you have to do in your role and be still.....do THAT NOW...

what you do is what you do , overdoing it or doing someone else JOB,because you are worried is a thing you should not do...when is your time is your time.

just do your JOB ..."your JOB only "..when you are let go it does not matter how much you DID

accept it if it's your time and move on ...

why wait to worry ...don't be stoopid.

I don’t agree with that 2 week ..per year..that’s not what I have been seeing ,that’s dead even two year ago....but only people that do benefit are old timers

2 years ago when i got laid off after 16 years, it was 2 weeks for every year. make sure they provide the Age document that is required by law showing all who got the axe and their ages, and all who remain. although this next one may be so sweeping that no one is spared. good luck and you will be fine no matter what - you got good skills there.
