Thread regarding GE Digital layoffs

New layoffs in Q1

Just heard there will be more over the next couple of months. Anyone who isn't looking for a job on their own is foolish!

Anyone in the U.S. with a medical condition that is not protected under law for said condition (or family member on your ge health insurance with medical condition) and anyone over age 30 in a LPB or below, should heed this warning. The cuts are just a numbers game. If you received a salary increase in the past two years, your new higher salary added to those of other employees who are let go now add up to a much larger sum of cuts or savings to impress the board members with.

I was notified back in November that Jan 8 was my last day. I just accepted an offer with a better company. Better salary, stock, insurance and job title. Thanks GE. It wasn't fun while it lasted.

@RrGTSk4-7xmu, your statement rings so true. Especially when you consider the latest actions/policies put into place, "Self-sourced applications", Smart Help, Skype, etc.

The head of HR pretty much said in the all-hands meeting that additional layoffs should be expected.

GE Digital has always appeared an arrogant beast that is completely disconnected from real business units. Every body feels the same way except Uncle Bill and his gangs. It was lucky to have money too burn.

If they keep GE Digital at all -- which is a big if, considering what a money-s---ing dog it is -- it won't stay in San Ramon, or even in California. it's more likely to be relocated to Roanoke, or even Bangalore. The fact that Ruh is still in place, along with so many of his under-performing subordinates, makes me think that Corporate isn't much interested in trying to plug the hole in the Titanic and will just offload it to the first semi-reasonable bidder that comes along. It's not only not profitable, it isn't even sustainable in its current form. Employees should be job-hunting now, while the market is hot, especially if they can do a commute to the Silicon Valley.

I heard some folks in San Ramon were let go today. No numbers yet - but the bleeding continues. When will this pig die?

Honestky I think if you are currently employed now at GE Digital, and were not the target of a layoff, you are probably fairly safe for a few years. Its ironic. GE Digital is cut to the bone.

Its clear to me from my chair here in San Ramon that managers are valued and ranked by how many direct reports they have - regardless of whether you are getting anything actually done. Big culture difference from my last job.

GED will continue as TSG and GIS continued before they merged.

We know transportation is being disposed of so layoffs will be used to support this sell. So GET IT will be made vertical again and layoffs will be at sites that support through shared services not co-located at a GET site. Energy Connections is a different ball game as it can be broken up into smaller pieces. I believe many in IT will just be phased out to a minimum to support on-going ops. The rest of GED will see some layoffs as they shift teams around and move some more work to India. Be assured that by next year GED will be smaller a look quite a bit different.

The strategic realignment of the businesses is taking shape, and GED as we know it will cease to exist. It is an impossibility to continue on our current vector as a side effect of divestiture and spin outs.
