Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

How does this help us?

Over the years I’ve experienced Teradata’s struggle with maintaining any type of long-term focus or steering us into any type of strategic direction. We seem to be going through an identity crisis. I understand change is difficult, but how can that change be good if it forces tenured professionals out the door to make room for new hires?

New employees may be able to provide fresh innovative ideas but is it worth the cost of the experience and knowledge we lose from our loyal colleagues who have been here for years? There are so many new coworkers, and the resources and cost of training them only to eventually see them laid off a few months later is ridiculous. It’s a pattern I’ve seen all too often and it doesn’t help anyone in the long run.

This is a great post. Soon, we'll have enough fresh blood yet most of experience will walk out

Brah, take advantage of that unlimited vacation and take some time before your end date. It's the rules, and nobody can fault you for saying you're searching for a job.

This was the hardest thing I've read here in a minute. It's true. I've been told my end date. It cuts deep into your soul when you see new people walking through the door as you are on your way out. Its every man for himself as people scramble to keep their jobs. The error I made, and will never make again, is putting too much of myself into a company that is not my own. Even as I know my end date I am forced to train some newbies. I feel completely drained. The new people and management are bombarding me with how-to questions because they know my time is short. I feel as if I am selling my soul for a few extra bucks. But if I up and walk out I'll leave a lot on the table. Struggling hard with all this right now.
