Thread regarding DMC - Detroit Medical Center layoffs

300 to be laid off by the DMC in 2018

It's all over the news today. Tedeschi announced that he'll be cutting 300 folks, that's roughly 3x what we cut in 2017 and it's the biggest round of the cuts every done here. It's about 3% of the total headcount. I am not sure what they plan to do with open job positions, are they eliminating them at all or what?

I am sure nurses will have the pay the heaviest price, they always go after us.

You do realize that DMC means Detroit Medical Center and it owns several hospitals? Huron Valley is only one of these and is only mentioned near the end of the article due to a nursing strike. DMC has suffered system wide with quality issues especially in Detroit and have had several series of layoffs and 'reorganizations' since Duggan left.

If you do not believe me on the nurses, check this out:

And in late 2017, the Michigan Nurses Association sued DMC's Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce Township claiming that there were dangerously low staffing levels that could harm patients. DMC denied that and said staffing levels were proper and patients were safe.
