AM is no doubt a decent bean counter, but leader of people, he ain’t. Same goes for the rest of ELT. They’re good at their professions, but don’t have what it takes to lead.
And that is the sad part of all of this. He who has wreaked so much havoc to Enbridge and its employees will head into the sunset with millions in his bank account. He will have the last laugh. Since when has Enbridge rewarded mediocrity ? His cohorts will be equally rewarded.
I applaud the executives who left before all of this happened. They left because they want no part in this game. They have my full respect.
Not this current bunch of clowns in the board room.
Only time will tell, but I think the board will replace Al after this go-round, so the company can start fresh. He’ll retire well, so no need to worry about him.
As they say, truth is the first casualty of war, and if you replace “war” with “downsizing”, “restructuring”, or “layoffs”, the statement holds true.
HR is just part of the machine that enables the lies and corruption to propagate.
By the way, where is the goddamn board in all of this? Don’t they care? Either they have their heads in the sand or our leaders have shared only highly sanitized information with them.
It’s staggering to think how corrupt Enbridge’s HR practices have become in such a short time period. I used to have such a high regard for the HR department. They operated with such integrity and were so forward thinking with regard to fairness, diversity, training, leadership, advancement, etc. Now they’re just another puppet of the ruling mafia.
Layoffs due to sale of assets or just another round?
Ouch. That hurts. But thanks for sharing. Best wishes to all Enbridge employees, no matter what happens!
My boss (which is my friend) unofficially told me that everyone should take their personal stuff home. The layoff will either be this Tuesday or next Wednesday. It’s happening this month, not FEB. They want it before filing the year end results in feb.
In my own experience, diversity of thought and expression is dead. I weigh and measure every word I utter now as I know it can be used against me. Yes! Just working on that now! Heil Hitler! I’ve become a sycophant myself.
I know of one VP who has used the layoffs as an opportunity to oust whichever employees she thinks are not completely loyal to her. She has surrounded herself with sycophants. If you’re not one of them, your days are numbered. Lots of that sort of thing going on now at the new Enbridge.
The guy ain’t good with people and doesn’t have a vision for the company. That’s why we’ve lost our way.
But who is to blame for all these layoffs ? Who took Enbridge to massive debt ? He should be the first one to be laid off.
I have watched these boards for several years it’s hard and hurts my heart. I’ve been with Enbridge for 20+ and I’m lucky enough to have been exposed to many layers and many wonderful people. They have always treated me respectfully. And NO I’m not HR lol. Now with that being said. There are more layoffs coming my stomach gets sick every time. I’ve been through it before I’ll go through it again. You recover, it hurts. That’s the bottom line. It s---s. But you are your destiny you make your path you choose to be happy. No matter what happens “you are the captain “ steer your ship
I think the way they treat us is actually pretty nice. All of us who come here to complain but never had the guts to unite and stop the work when our high performing dedicated coworkers got laid off because of office politics or nepotism deserve worse. Everyone has an excuse about why they couldn't stand up for the right thing but that is exactly why we are in the situation in which the ELT gets double digit raises and us united cowards get 0%. So I do hope they treat us worse and cut pay until either we unite or we completely fall apart.
KR is that you posting? Sounds like an ELT member with a conscience........“My biggest regret is that we handled the layoffs since the fall of 2015 in a manner that lacked tact, grace, emotional intelligence and an appreciation of the important contributions that the employees we let go had made to the company over the years. I’m not sure Enbridge will recover from that scar on our corporate history. It’s a shame we will bear forever.”
Layoffs will affect Canadian Projects
AM, BN, CH, GJ and the others don’t instill the respect and confidence that their peers of a few years ago did. They haven’t earned it.
Employees are subject to the whims of the VPs, who protect their favourites.
it’s sad to see how far we’ve fallen.
My own story completely corroborates. I was told that I wasn’t being laid off for performance reasons, but because I wasn’t favoured by a certain leader whom I won’t mention.
When I consider who’s now doing my old job, I understand everything.
No truer words have been written. If you’re good at office politics you’re safe, no matter what your qualifications or how competent you are. It figures into the rankings.
That aligns with my observations. It’s why this company is now filled with back stabbing political opportunists, and not smart, fair leaders and team players. I see untold hours wasted on internal politics.
I am suspicious of the decisions they make about who to keep and who to let go. They say they are keeping the best people, but in most cases, they are not. They are either keeping the cheapest person or the person who has political backing.
My friend, an accomplished professional I met and befriended at Enbridge, and who was laid off during one of the many rounds of layoffs we’ve experienced over the last three years, told me what happened when she was let go. Despite her 15 years of dedicated service, including mentoring many others, including me, she was told that she was not qualified to perform her job, that she didn’t have the proper academic background and that she was not a good fit for our department. Well, that same department still hasn’t recovered. The quality of our work is no where near what it was when she was here, and our team members don’t talk to or trust each other anymore. I think her layoff was more a function of her boss wanting to protect her own job than of my friend’s so-called lack of qualifications. Stories like this are hard to take, and make it difficult for me to trust anyone at the company.
The layoffs have cost us an incalculable fortune in terms of lost talent, wisdom, knowledge and team spirit. Our iinability to value those attributes will be our undoing.
My biggest regret is that we handled the layoffs since the fall of 2015 in a manner that lacked tact, grace, emotional intelligence and an appreciation of the important contributions that the employees we let go had made to the company over the years. I’m not sure Enbridge will recover from that scar on our corporate history. It’s a shame we will bear forever.
The Marshall spill, which highlighted our ability to pull together in a crisis, was nothing in comparison.
My advice to those of you who may be let go (and even those who won’t be) is not to take it so personally, which I know is easier said than done. We have some serious debt issues, so some of you will have to go. It’s not because you’re not excellent at what you do, it’s because we just can’t afford all of you. As a result, we’ve undertaken some drastic measures which, we know, have hurt both our employees (past and present) and the company. But it’s a cutthroat industry and that’s what we needed (and need) to do to survive. That’s what it boils down to.
Monaco’s responsibility is to the shareholders, meaning share price and survival of the company. Enbridge was too dependent on revenue from transporting Canadian oil sands products so he bought Spectra for almost $40 B, more than we could comfortably afford. To lessen the debt burden, he has been cutting employees, and will continue to do so. Naturally, he’s going to keep a combination of the best and the cheapest, and he’s going to look for ways to make them cheaper still. Isn’t that what you would do? I admit, though, that it does wreak havoc with the corporate culture and Monaco’s aloofness doesn’t help. I sense the anxiety and depression every day.
Al will do what Al will do. Do yourself a favour and focus on yourself and your family. It’s not worth the grief.
I’ve heard through the grapevine that the large-scale layoffs are over. Leaders are tight lipped about everything, though.
I heard the layoffs were over and that the synergy savings have been met. Plus I am aware that some leaders think we’ve had all the negativity we can bear for a while. I don’t think there will be a large/scale layoff. I hope not anyway. We need to rebuild what we used to have. Is all of this scaring people really necessary?
The parallels with the Nazi regime are eerie. Hitler also accomplished his Final Solution in carefully planned out stages.
I have to wonder how much of this has to do with Enbridge’s finances and how much has to do with Monaco needing to persecute people. It’s obvious his parents didn’t love him as a child.
If you remain one of the chosen ones, watch your back. Al has fostered a dog-eat-dog culture and, any false move on your part, you’ve got a target on your back. Yeah, even you, white guy.
The legacy spectra folks aren't ranked like the legacy enbridge are. That will change next year with workday. So any legacy spectra layoffs will be determined the old fashioned way. Backroom dealing.
Do you think you're safe if you are under the valued performer umbrella? Average isn't a good thing but it isn't a bad thing worth termination either.
Yes siree. Sounds like the Fuhrur is set on getting his jollies from a good old fashioned Holocaust, now that everyone’s been ranked and numbered. Only the “master race” will survive. Bet he wishes he could gas the undesirables as well.
Enbridge is lined up to become the biggest jerk of a company ever. Exactly mirroring Al’s “biggest bully in the playground” personality.
Someone asked whether Al has a personality disorder. I had never considered that, but I do believe it’s true. He’s got the same disorder Hitler had.
I think it will be a large scale final layoff based on the most recent performance review and the "employee potential matrix" which was filled out last year. It will be ahead of the company wide town hall mid February (which are usually held in December). Al's talk will be about "we had to do it etc.). The timing seems to line up.
Large scale layoffs or just a few pockets here and there?
Happening in less than two weeks!
Why more layoffs? Haven’t they met the damn synergy targets yet?
They will probably lay off mid February and make your STIP part of your package.
Seriously? I just moved there for a new job. Should have stayed in Calgary
