Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Not just Staples

From reading posts, it seems many of you think you'll just bounce right back and have a job in no time.

Look, I'm not trying to be a downer, but layoffs are going on everywhere, not just Staples. Doubt that?

Spend some time reading "Latest Posts" on this site. Most people tend to be myopic, can't see anything beyond their own little fishbowl, so it never crosses their mind that what they're going through is happening to others too.

Well it is, in a big way. And spare me the "But...the stock market is at all time highs!" or "But...the government says the economy is on fire!"

Sorry, but politicians lie, and governments are nothing but lots of politicians in one place. And as for the stock market, it was at all time highs in September 2008, a month or so before the world financial system collapsed.

The job requirements nowadays are extraordinarily specific and outlandish. I'm not surprised positions stay open for over a year. Employers are all going after those in their 20s and 30s with advanced degrees and industry specific experience. Time to open their minds to potential candidates outside of their narrow specifications. Also employers need to take better care of the employees they have. My husband keeps getting workers cut all around him and their responsibilities piled on top of his own without a penny more. He hasn't had a raise in years and they keep cutting his bonus as the fat cats up top rake it in. FU corporate America.

Modern parents are producing crappy workers. It's the new society. Unfortunately, the older generation who know how to exploit the markets will do so right now. It's a free for all until it all crashes.

Thanks new generation. Thanks for not being able to protect your own future. Thanks for spending your time crying about mistreatment. We are screwed.
