Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Nervous ahead of tomorrow

It seems that January 16 is pretty much a given for major Staples layoffs, at least according to posts here and rumors I've been hearing around the office.

I'm mildly put a nervous wreck due to it. I'm nearing 50, and I was hoping to retire working here. If I get laid off, I have no idea what to do. Haven't interviewed for a job in decades.

Anyhow, just wanted to wish everybody good luck ahead of tomorrow. I hope it will be much better than we expect.

Pension plan? What do you think this is? A government job or the 1950's?

Anyone know which supply chain team will mainly be effected?

Retirement from staples? Not. Hell, they don’t even have a pension plan. Be worried if you make good money. If you do, you have a target on your head.

Yep. I was part of the blood letting in MA several years ago right around Jan 16th. It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

Your source comes from God, not man(Staples). Have faith that either way you will be ok. There is more out there and honestly, you have a lot more to offer the world than what you are doing right now. Keep your head up, be brave, get your resume refreshed just in case and remember to breathe. These times can be scary but you will end up ok. Don't forget that.

Yep, grass is definitely greener. Took me a few months to find something after I was downsized. I remember driving to work everyday wondering if it was the day my number got called. Hated going to bed at night not knowing if I would be let go the next day. My heart jumped every time my cell phone rang. The stress alone was killing me. If you’re happy there then stick it out if you want. Don’t cry when it’s over though.

I left a year ago and I can say the grass is very definitely greener out there. I am 10 times happier now. Look at what private equity companies do, even if you survive this round here will be several more. Is it worth this stress every time? If you can deal with it then deal with it. But i am certainly glad I looked for other opportunities.

I mean 'burst your bubbles' before some smart a-- comments on it. Also plz don't think getting out is the solution, you need to ride it. The Grass isn't greener out there. Wait and see what happens. Do what u do best, stay focused. What happens is beyond us. Think positive. I only hear 40 people and mainly concentrated in 1 team at least for supply chain. So most of you are safe. Think positive! You will be fine!

I think we are all nervous. It may be those let go now are the lucky ones. This definitely won’t be the last round of layoffs. I don’t know if I feel like hanging around waiting for my turn. That may be worse. Get your resume ready, be proactive, hit the job boards. There are other opportunities out there and from what I hear much better companies to work for, especially now, what Staples has become these last few years. Oh well, good luck to you. Good luck to us all.

You r 50 yrs old and afraid you can't retire with Staples. You are funny, very funny. I thought you meant you are 60 and hoping that. Yeah definitely worry about what's to come but plz don't talk retirement now. You have a long way to go honey boo boo. Plus pray for health and other things to get u to 65 with cancer ravished world. Pray for health, sanity, and happiness until u get there. Sry to bust ur bubbles but that's the fact.
