Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

shout out to Oakland

A year ago today (3/1/17), you guys pulled off the impossible. You voted YES (49-to-46) to be represented by IBEW.

I give you guys a lot of credit for being able to see through all the deception, manipulation, and intimidation from management. (primarily spurred by Altice's #1 asset, Paul Hilbítch)

That being said, I have a few questions to ask:

  • do you have any regrets?

  • how has management been treating you?

  • how close are you to getting a contract?

  • how many guys left to go scab @ Spectrum?

  • what's the sentiment amongst the techs?

  • what percentage of techs support the cause right now?

  • how are the guys that voted NO feeling right now?

  • are you in contact with other shops trying to get them onboard?

  • is FTTH project taking place anywhere in Oakland footprint?

  • how does it feel to not be a part of ATS?

lol you union boys talk about ATS drinking the koolaid and spectrum scabs. like your safe on your perch. Its a shame that the TANG you drank got you too high to see whats happening industry wide.

believe me when I say once your contract is up your screwed. IBEW is weak just as weak as CWA. both unions are corrupt and no better than any other business corporation. but id venture to say just a little bit more wicked, just because they use your struggles to line their own pockets with lies about brotherhood and unity. they take credit for things they had nothing to do with (like the four year agreement made BY THE CITY NOT THE UNION.)

You don't have to look far to see how union big wigs have brainwashed their members much better than hilbur ever could. how nearly every member is a vicious, conniving little thug more prone to violence than educated debate. look through this forum and see the maliciousness and the talk about karma and the back handed wishes of failure toward ATS techs. you all prove why unions are going downhill, s--- and are powerless in the end to make any real difference.

Fact of the matter is spectrum BROKE IBEW. you can blame scabs, the mayor your ex fellow techs, your mom and your pop. at the end of the day they failed. just like they will fail you when your contract is up. smart people saw the times have changed its every man for himself. no company owes you squat except a paycheck for services rendered. its a new era where the only person you can count on is yourself. Don't be mad at the people who preferred koolaid over TANG it taste better and has more vitamin c. everyone must choose for himself what is right not you or your union or the company. its about adapting to change in the way that fits your needs and no one else.

wondering why Oakland and Brooklyn got no news on a contract long over due? its because there will be no contract other than what the company wants not what your union wants. in this case no choice was the best we are all hoping our choices were the right ones for ourselves. but smart people know to always have a backup plan.

Differences between Altice USA and Ats.

Altice USA is using Ats as a 3rd party supplier per Dex layman’s term doh.

PSC agreement protection USA yes Ats No.

Altice USA is recognized as the provider of Cable for Ny franchise agreement tenure seniority. Ats is a start up that was created to circumvent PSC, and frustrate you into leaving by changing metrics so you cannot meet goals, if you took the 10% pay cut. the workers that left Ats to become spectrum scabs, virtually none of them have been replaced in Ats, they are using other contracting firms to pick up the slack. Why is that? Altice answer they are cheaper.

Last and the biggest, Altice would have to negotiate buyouts with Ausa majority is union now bk Oakland to eliminate/reduce layoff workers, Ats workers can be rounded up tomorrow and pink slipped and you cannot contest it because you signed over voluntarily, with no contract you are strictly at will.

You will be given, if they are nice a two week severance and that’s it for 1 year of service if that. And one last note

You are the highest paid cable contractors in the industry with benefits if you do not think that Altice is not looking at how much they are paying out in Ats then Godspeed and good luck protect yourselves and your salaries. You may have a slight Altice one remote chance good luck and Godspeed.

Question for OAKLAND. Did you guys have ANY issues with paychecks? Do the same companies do your paychecks as well as ATS and USA checks?

Let's see if we can answer these questions I'm assuming ur looking for some motivation to go union....

1.Not being a part of ats is awesome (fact) is rather be Altice USA employee than a third party contractor that's ran by Altice USA.

  1. As for ftth project nobody knows anything could possibly be in negotiation with the union. But nobody talks, quite honestly from all the sh-- talking about fiber on this forum, we ain't in no hurry.

  2. As for other shops getting on board can't answer that. If they can't see the writing on the wall. Then God help them, id hate anybody to lose there job.

  3. about how guys are feeling everybody situation isn't the same, but it's alot better having 4,5, or 6 career progression as a usa employee than 2 with a-- my bad ats.

  4. Sentiment amongst us is fine, we work together like a team. Before and after the take over. Meaning nothing has changed.

  5. Contract still in negotiation if you did some research your have had answered some of your own questions. It takes time.

  6. Guys that left to go scab. That's interesting I'm sure u know a "few" that crossed that fine line. Karma is all I can say, disappointing. But that happens people jump from a sinking ship.

  7. No problems and no hostility with management, status quo. They had there orders, when you're at will employee.....

you give respect you get respect.

  1. Any regrets? Negative, well

Only that the whole company didn't unite.

And last comment about Paul H. I can't be mad at him he's a great salesman and that's what they pay him for. Its just yall b--ches that bought the lemonade that was wrapped up in a Louie the 13th package.

Common sense people. If you can't take the heat get out the kitchen.

Work hard and you will get rewarded...
