He may not want to take over the company because he's having too much fun. Peruse this for awhile ( https://www.instagram.com/probassjp/?hl=en ).

What do you mean, "no offspring that wants anything to do with the business"?

Isn't JM in the same boat, so to speak, as the Cabela brothers? Getting up there in age with no offspring that wants anything to do with the business? JM is at the mature side of his business. He'll have to go public to get out the business just the way the Cabela boys did. Goldman Sachs will encourage if not force that in 3 to 5 years.

JM learned a lesson watching CAB go public and get over ran by groups milking it dry. He has his "private" investors that are in line with each other. As for stores, we seen it already, close the doors and either merge with other stores or sell it off.

If you want to see big beautiful stores full of people, go to a Scheels store.

It will be extremely difficult to entice new investors to the BP-Cabelas model. At one time RC would host and fly potential investors to a few locations and wow them with the big beautiful stores that were full of people. Today those stores are empty and look like a tired K-mart inside and out.

He is going to do the same thing with Bass Pro, they will go public to satisfy the obligation to Goldman Sachs. Ralph will be back to fudging the numbers to elicit new investors, A Paul Sanger type will swoop in and the circle of life continues, the employees are just a means to an end!

Depends upon if BP goes public. That's been the "rumor" why he went to work for BP anyway. JM didn't have a CFO with public trading experience. Did JM forget that Ralphie got sanctioned by the SEC for misrepresenting intercompany transactions? I.e. overstating revenues!! CAB had to pay a $1m fine and Ralphie a $50k fine which I'm sure CAB picked up.
