Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

This is awful

How does GE expect us to be productive when we all know there are a minimum of 6,000 people left to be laid off?

Who thinks that working with an axe hanging over your head is a good motivator? Maybe for some people, but for majority it's just a huge distraction.

Can it be over with already?

Ha! I find it funny, Tiim, that you think you are untouchable because GE paid for your leadership skills. No one is safe! I got laid off along with several other leaders of the company last year. GE paid lots of money for me to be a leader, and now I’m a leader at a much better company. Don’t be naive. GE cares about no one and feels no regret for laying you off if they need to in order to make the quarter.

The omlp program has screwed ge, letting these idiot's right out of college have leadership rolls has killed Greenville. I've witnessed it for the past 10 years.

Tim-

If you think you're less vulnerable because GE spent money on you, get ready for an eye opener. You, like everyone else, are just a number, and that makes you a liability more than an asset. Get your head out of the clouds, dust off your resume, and join the real world, OMLP grads are a dime a dozen.

"Who thinks that working with an axe hanging over your head is a good motivator?"

No one. What kind of question is that?

"Can it be over with already?"

So, what do you want to do about it? Fire everyone and start over again? Fire people before management knows they aren't needed? Seriously, what kind of dumb question are you asking? THEY DON"T KNOW how many or what skills they will need going forward. How obvious can that be?

@RSyXpW1-ess, I'm sure some people that have left are biased because they want to believe their decision/layoff was for the best. Not all of them though. I know for me personally, the layoff forced me to look into what else was out there and the job market is booming for engineers.

At GE you get fed this idea that you are working for a big important company so you should be happy with your job. That couldn't be further from the truth, my new job pays better. At GE I worked 10+ hours a day minimum with no overtime, at the new place I work 8 hours and go home because my workload is actually reasonable and the culture isn't toxic. The relationship between the salaried and hourly staff isn't completely adversarial like it was in Greenville.

I still have many friends who work in Greenville so part of the reason I visit this board because I'm interested in what is happening to them. The other part is because I enjoy seeing people who were drinking the koolaid a year ago get hit in the face with reality.

No I am at GE but still check out old employers sites to see what's up in the company and whether I did the right thing by switching. I moved to save a long commute and for $ so it's working out. But then I can easily find another job if laid off from this aviation job. Others may not find it so easy.

These posts by people supposedly leaving and finding Nirvana are trolls.

Logic 101: If you left GE and are happily working somewhere else, why would you spend 2 mins on GE's layoff board a year later?

You wouldn't. You would happily have moved on and have little interest in hanging out on GE's layoff board. So, they're either trolls or management/HR trying to get you to quit.

I was with GE over 15 years and you were never safe. I left GE last year with vjsp, and it was the best decision I ever made. Run out of there! Things are much better on the outside!

I do feel bad for people losing their job. GE offers a lot of career options.

You could have joined the OMLP program, like me, or any other leadership program that makes GE spend money on you. It will be so much harder for them to let you go knowing they invested in your leadership skills.

6000 left to be laid off? It is for sure 6000 just in Ex-Alstom in Europe.

Raise your hand up high and ask for a severance package to leave that pit. You can thank me later.

There is better life after GE!

You can always quit. McDonald's is always looking for a few fry cooks.
