Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Boy more of the same from GE

Now they are creating a new business unit, see below. Talk about more write-downs. This is how GE is going to meet their numbers for 2018.

Here is transcript from Qtr 1 , JF " GE power will take significant write-downs in power division" blah, blah, " restructuring charges of $2 billion, results in zero taxes and challenging times ahead" Blah, Blah, as result we are considering selling Recip business we bought for $3.3 billion , sale price is being evaluated but we think we can get $2 billion for it after considering pension obligations and other write downs."

Yeah, spin the business off , book keep the costs, claim the costs on the balance sheet and once again claim zero or no taxes due to the costs for this action. What the blog is about is GE once again financially engineering their earnings. It has nothing to do with servicing your clients or their needs. GE has been doing this for years in capital division. It was much less transparent back then, now the charge has to be explained in the quarter. As GE sells off profitable parts of the business’s they lose gross sales. I think what the post is saying is GE bought a couple business’s to add synergy to GE power and paid more than what they are planning on selling it for...kind of like the GT filtration business they sold to Clarcor. The deal was only $360 million but GE Power spent millions developing its filtration products through the GRC and Greenville MSD to be sold. Another great move. It was sold because GE never really did a good job of integrating them. Too many cost to quality issues and GE filtration would never settle it’s quality issues so they put them on the auction block and sold them for what they bought them for but never recouped the product development costs.

Your post makes no sense. Battery storage is a growing capability especially when paired with renewables but also with gas units for back-up and peaking power. Power created a group to integrate those into our products and frank we should have done this 5 yrs ago. Do you actually do any research or just post to vent on non related topics?
