Plant meeting was today. There will be a 20% reduction in hourly employees. Right now, they are asking for volunteer resignations in return for 12 weeks severance pay. After that, layoff will start to reach the 20% target, which is about 200 employees

Someone with 20 years in would be just about crazy to take the volunteer package. As far as I know they would still get the 12 weeks, but they may just let those with 20 retire. They should have enough seniority not to be layed off, but they still might get caught in the shuffle during restructure. But for someone like me who only has
4 1/2 years in, it might be worth jumping ship.

How does this work? For example, if layed off with 20 years, you’d get 20 weeks pay. Why would someone in that situation volunteer to take 12?
What about Salary workers in Greenville plant? Will they be affected?
