Seven managers were "let go" on February 1, 2018 including the Assistant Store Manager (See "Good Riddance!") at the Woodbury, MN location (Store 54). We were not told much about it, only that "Bass-Bela's" was going to concentrate on getting more "Outfitters" to work the floor. Sure. Believe it when I see it! By the way, why does it take over 3 years to get to the point where you make $12.00 an hour?

Younger workers have no loyalty either when it comes to a job. As soon as they get an itch in their pants, they move on. Five years or less for the typical young worker. Companies waste a lot of money on younger workers with the misconception that they're cheaper and better than older workers. Older workers tend to be more loyal and stable. Older workers cost more in insurance too if they're not as healthy. But, in today's day and age, all workers are nothing more than a commodity. Just like they were in the 1800's.

I agree that it's more economical to hire younger workers, but the cheapest is to cut down on your workers permanently. Business have lots of ways they do this, including using technology to have workers be more productive. Lots of retail businesses are experimenting with buying algorithms. They just feed it several years of buying data and they let the program do the rest. Of course a human has to check it over and make a few adjustments.

One more thing to consider...

For the last year, every time a corporate retail job was posted, anywhere, they must have got a few hundred resumes from Cabela's current and ex- employees. If it had any kind of "outdoor" component I bit was even higher.

With this much competition from so many, in such a narrow field, it could even take longer to find something. I think a lot of these people are going to have to go into new fields of work.

The offer sounds great on paper for those over 50, but the chances of someone over 50 finding a job are pretty tough. Last numbers I saw were at least 6 moths to 1 year to find a job that will pay 50 to 75% of what you were making. If you are over 55, the average time to find a job is 24 to 36 months. Companies think you are not worth investing in since the payback time is only a few years till retirement. Your replacement can be hired at a much lower wage than you were and the ROI on a younger person is just higher. This is the cruel reality business today. Hopefully people were wise enough to put some money away for a rainy day. Guess what? It is starting to sprinkle.

Exactly!!! What about the managers who were over 50 and had 10 or more years with company on the retail side. They got a whopping 2 weeks per year and the month of February for their health insurance. Bet they would have loved the option of a buyout. I have no sympathy for the people in Sidney. You chose to live in that God awful town now good luck finding employment there. Besides once Uncle Sam taxes the crap out of that lump sum 40 or 20k bonus, jokes on them!!!

40 thousand dollar bonus? Wtf? All while retail store employees get a couple weeks pay as severance. This is why you corporate shmucks are hated by the real workers.
