Severance or replacement position?

I survived this round, but it is clear this is far from over, which makes me curious about some things.

Any chance somebody can tell us what kind of severance was offered to those who were laid off? And in case they were offered a replacement position, was it at same pay or would it have entailed a major pay cut?

Any info would be appreciated.

Go to reddit and just see if you can find someone who will give you a straight answer as to what is real - e.g. posters from WA in X,Y,Z position got and estimated x number of weeks per year of service, plus or minus, and you have to sign something, and you may need to help them transition, etc. People are usually generous in sharing this info.

@enx, you must not be in Compensation. No one said severance is used as a recruiting tool, that was your assumption. During times of constant reorganization severance packages get expensive to corporations. Most companies try to be aware of what their competition is doing in all realms of employment from compensation to benefits. Typically severance goes against compensation budgets. No company wants to be overspending on severance relative to their competitors. Most would rather use their compensation budget to attract talent with good starting salaries than to be giving it away in severance packages on the backend to people leaving employment. It's not at all atypical to have a the severance policy for a large class of workers to be posted on an internal company website that details the the number of weeks payable for each year of service and any associated maximum, as well as unused PTO payable.

No one posts severance policies on their internal websites. It's often different for each round or situation and, in fact, for each person depending on tenure, level, etc. Companies don't compete with each other on severance policy--anyone who would choose a company based on its severance policy is someone that shouldn't be hired in the first place.

Severance isn't legally required in Washington state. Most severance packages make you sign an NDA either way.

Find it hard to believe the severance policy isn't posted on an internal Amazon website. What is more likely is competitors trying to find out what the Amazon severance policy is. After all, one wouldn't want to have a severance policy that is more generous than the competition, lol.
