In MA, if you are required to sign a severance package, you can receive unemployment (at least that is my understanding). Has anyone received theirs yet? I have not. Just curious - first time I have filed and not sure I am doing it correctly. Thank you.

I filed and got word this week that I will receive benefits. Took a little over 3 weeks
I had a call from unemployment today and they walked me through uploading my signed severance agreement. They said they should have a determination next week. I was part of the January layoffs
Not received yet and was in the November round of layoffs. Calling Mass Division of Unemployment yields the same message “we are working through the backlog”. Sorry, don’t expect it soon.
If you signed a release of claims document then you can collect unemployment concurrently with your severance in MA. This isn't anything new.
I live in the Midwest. When I was layed off a couple of years ago I was able to collect unemployment while also receiving my severance payments. Some friends in MA were not able to collect unemployment until their severance was exhausted. Depends on the state on when/if you’ll receive it.
I got a severance package but the ER doctor was able to sew it back on.

Since President Obama and continued with President Trump, the Unemployment for each State is encouraged to loose, delay, or find reasons not to accept your unemployment.
The "Official Government News" the Federal Reserve uses states that the US has the lowest Unemployment Rate in decades.
Of course, this is part of the Fake News. They switched to an index for the Dept of Labor that only list those who "qualify for the State unemployment" and once the unemployment insurance is exhausted, the humans no longer count. This helps the Federal Reserve justify subsidies for the larger banks.
In some States, they have special "rules" for unemployment.
In Colorado for example, the Denver Post exposed the "no raise for 12 prior months".
If an employee gets a raise 12 months prior, and gets laid off, or if they take another job for more money and get laid off within 12 months: they don't qualify for unemployment.
Companies knowing a layoff is possible used this. According to the Denver Post, it lowered Colorado Unemployment numbers over 15% (maybe 40%).
As a former State Employee of almost 10 years responsible for providing official data from the state to the federal government, let me assure you there is huge pressure from executive management to adjust data to a political positive bias.

Realizing they will put up every road-block to prevent you from filing for what is yours, keep applying and don't let them win. Just understand that the system is against you!
