Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

These guys don't have a clue of where they are standing...

This past week I was contacted several times both via LinkedIn (and through voice calls) by an insisting HPE recruiter telling me that I was the "perfect fit" for a role she was "sourcing" with urgency. Of course I was the "perfect fit"... I was laid off two years ago from that same position/location/organization after having the same job for four years...

I very politely told her that I was laid off from that same position (different hiring manager - as my then-boss was eventually kicked out as well), and needless to say how embarrassed she was. Then - without me saying a single word - she started complaining about how hard her job has become, as all the hiring managers are looking for unrealistic expectations in terms of talent vs. what they are willing to pay and that most of them now want to hire only US located candidates with no (or lame) relocation packages and starting salaries.

Two years later I can only feel pity about the people that is still there (or the ones even considering joining the company). I just wonder for how long this HPE-existence agony will continue.

I very politely told them to go straight to hell after giving themselves a good soaking in gasoline.

Speaking of falling wages for techies, I saw this on indeed.com:

"Uber Driver Partner - Supplement Your Programmer Income

Uber Driver Partners • CO-Longmont-80501 • 2/7/2018"

So now SW Engineers need to drive a cab after putting in a day at the office to make ends meet.

And we're supposed to be in a "strong job market" with a severe shortage of programmers. I can only what it's going to be like in the next official recession.

"Yes, the ridiculously high expectations (number of abilities and degrees required) v/s low pay, and young ages, things, have been going on a long-long time, and not just at HPE."

Yes, it's rampant everywhere. I was thinking of switching jobs last year (I left HP years ago, at MH's invitation) and saw exactly what you saw: very high expectations and VERY low pay offered. I had a very excited recruiter call from from Airbus, for a position in Fort Collins. Apparently, I was a perfect fit. The fly in the ointment was the pay: $80K. That would have meant a huge pay cut for me. Heaven help those who have been wfrd.

Yes, the ridiculously high expectations (number of abilities and degrees required) v/s low pay, and young ages, things, have been going on a long-long time, and not just at HPE. One wonders, just HOW do they expect you to have 50 radically different skill sets, when you're also expected to be not more than 1.5, or 2, or 4, etc., years out of school!?

I think there's a bit of legal arse-covering going on... See, here, you did NOT have ALL of these 50 different skill sets, and the 3 PhD degrees that we are asking for, so THERE are the reasons we did not hire you! (But then they will find a fair-haired boy or girl, who combs their hair just the right way, and they will be forgiven all of their lacking skill sets).

Well anyway, my experience, after being laid off, was applying to endless HPE jobs (knowing full danged well that I was laid off and black-listed, per their written policies)... So as to set HPE up for filing an age discrimination suit, or threat thereof! In many states (all states?) you can go to arbitration, get paid back for HPE's discrimination, and never even go to court, or pay much (or anything, even) to a lawyer.

So here's the amazing thing... Several hiring managers called me back, without them even knowing about the "blacklisting" policies! I had to explain it to them (and complain about it)... Then they'd check it out, confirm it to be true, and only THEN did they stop calling!

Really funny thing is, after all of that, HPE will go running and crying to Congress, because they cannot FIND enough native workers, and they just MUST get more H-1B immigrant worker allocations!
