Word on the street is a February 2017 announcement of a Gulfport- Southwestern Energy merger. Any truth to it?

I guess on of the two failboats realized this is a terrible idea. I am sure it was not silly silly Billy Billy's idea because it makes sense.
Maybe March will see the failboat pull away from the dock.

Nobody knows. This whole thread is speculation at best. People who think they know or are in the know, honestly don’t have a clue.
Is this rumor of a merger based on market rumors, or from an internal rumors?
Gulfport and Southwestern stocks are both off about 6% today. Rumor has it announcement coming very soon.
