Thread regarding Burlington Coat Factory layoffs

Employees deserve respect

I don’t know how it is in other Burlington coat outlets but in mine the workload is insane! It’s physically demanding and time driven, which is a losing combination whichever way you look at it. We work our fingers to the bone. At best if we’re lucky we are staffed with bare minimum of people, but it’s still not enough to get the job done.

I can’t remember a time since being employed here that I wasn’t asked to work beyond my shift just to be able to complete certain expectations, but I have yet to receive a ‘thank you’ from any of my managers.

Honestly, we are treated like work horses - there to do a job and get ridiculed at every opportunity. If we complain, what meager hours we are given are taken away. Managers don’t seem to understand that it’s their employees who are the backbone of the store. Our managers depend on us, and yet they have no respect for the job we’re doing. That really needs to change, or they risk losing all of us.

Security is more concerned with watching employees. It's ridiculous. Theft is deductible in the long run. They hope employees make innocent mistakes ( remember - no real training) so they can chide them. Priorities are so off balanced.

And make sure that the SSTT is done FAST! What started as a somewhat good idea to keep things tagged and orderly, is now a race to the finish. It can't be done thoroughly at the speed expected. If one person is claiming they did an entire department in one shift, guaranteed they skipped part of the process, and that's a huge reason why women's underwear are hanging with baby clothes.

Agreed they add more "ideas" & "tasks" created by upper management & loss prevention. Shortages were fewer when employees didn't have ridiculous time consuming tasks. Case in point, SSTT. So Corporate, you want employees checking merch for sstt. So we are looking at merch as opposed to keeping our eyes on customers. Brilliant idea. Also takes away from customer service and experience. Again smaller shortage when we just did our jobs, not security's job.

Still the same there but the stock price keeps going up. In part because operations costs are low. We're a big part of the operations cost!

I know the feeling! You are expected to do 8 hours worth of work in 4 hours. The way employees are scheduled is really dumb, skeleton crew, especially on weekends and Holidays! Shoplifters are enabled, because they already know we really can't do anything to stop them but help them look for the items they are going to run out with! They already know at closing there are only a couple of people on the floor, one cashier, one closing manager, (mostly in the office) and security has been gone since 6.... To me it's a very poorly run company. I don't understand that they don't realize that the $1200 to $3000 + merchandise that is lifted on a daily basis could pay wages for a couple more employees and better security. SMH
