Cheaper to hire a few good senior engineers to simulate the chip than to lose $21B in stock value.
This is the direct consequence when PMs make technical decisions on whether certain features/bugs should be fixed. Shame on the leadership, including architects and PEs for letting this over a decade. Heads should roll, but wait, nothing will happen. In a surplus year like this, the upper echelons will get busy dividing the spoils and promoting their buddies.
