How come there's no mentioning of GE layoffs on the news? I saw an headlines of 150 people laidoff at ESPN, but no mentioning of huge and massive GE layoffs.

I heard that for a lot of people it’s “re-apply for a position in another location or you don’t have a job” I think that may be a way to bypass a layoff technically.
It is odd that there is very little media coverage. I no longer see the month old articles on San Ramon and NY layoffs. No mention of layoffs in my city. The local media has been chastised in past for not covering stories here, so no surprise. I would bet they are attempting to manage any media coverage or negative PR. I am being inundated with hiring notices and job listings for them on LinkedIn.
Connecticut coverage trickles in, with skimpy and copycat reporting. One headline says GE "announces" layoffs, but as the CT post notes, the news was extracted from the company through the Labor Department: "The conglomerate disclosed the job cuts in a filing with the Connecticut Department of Labor, with the company not responding immediately Monday to a Hearst Connecticut Media request for information."

Layoff in ge is not juicy news. Ppl think it is what the company makes a living.

Meanwhile, no news about the 81 layoffs in Norwalk, CT.
i think GE is firing under the table , hence no news in media !
News media pick it up from official sources like WARN notices (state by state) which require a threshold number. If a company targets below that number then they dont have to report to that official source. Ppl affected are under non disclosure.
Also the numbers are a drop in the bucket for a company as big as GE.
