Thread regarding GE Power layoffs

GE Power was destroyed by bad management

GE Power has the same problem with steam turbine and generator production.

The new facilities they built in India, China and farm out of all parts has devastated Schenectady shop load last three years to very low efficiency and high cost of low utilization factors and high shipping and handling costs. This resulted in layoff after lay off and closure of almost all of the service facilities to make up for costs skyrocketing.

We see bad decision after bad decision by management with little experience who are eager to get promoted by doing this under the fake cost savings of doing things in India and China. The quality there s---s, and low utilization factors and high cost just as bad even before you throw in excessive transportation costs. None of these facilities have paid off and are dragging down GE Power with high cost structure, even before the Alstom disaster. GE Power cash flow tanked because of all of the above

GE Power has really screwed up big time because of bad management that has replaced world class experts who used to run the business

No where can any GE facility put together and ship a steam turbine on a quicker cycle than Schenectady. We cant beat the financials of Europe and Asia, but quality wise and schedule, we can kick but! Many in positions for this to happen, take pride in what can be done. Many issues that have been had in the last 5yrs have been very clearly managerial issues. If the management team is built from the floor, Schenectady could once again thrive again in the steam turbine business. Plant management that has a clue about managing anything would help, having people beneath him that could tell the truth, would be most helpful. Hourly work force would of course need to be willing to actually do what's needed to get the work done, to get more work. Thursday the 30th Nov., is supposed to bring at least 50 salary being given there pink slips. come Jan 1, the salary staff under Nate is to be near 90. Its very obvious where there is over staff issues and salary waste in many cases. It will be a challenge for Steam to succeed with the heavy work load in Schenectady late 2018, but its believed by some it can happen! There SHOULD be several hundred Temp. lack of Works to the hourly folks for most of the 1st quarter of 2018, this would allow the company to save money, at the same time keep the hourly workers from going insane sitting around doing nothing for 2-3 months!! It will be interesting to see how it all plays out for sure. Good luck to all!!!
