I've read here before that some people received adverse reactions from potential employers to having DeVry listed among previous workplaces. Is this true? Should I really leave DeVry off? Isn't missing five years on the resume going to be an even bigger red flag?
I'm about to start looking for a new job after being let go recently and I'm really not sure what to do...
I was able to get a job at a cc with Devry name on resume. The new place is thousand times better.
You might also find folks working at cc's who got PhDs from for-profits to jump the salary scale.

@NeverSurrender, are you a teacher? What I am trying to understand is, what students can't attend a community college that would be much less costly than a for-profit like DeVry? For those beyond an AA, what will the ROI be for those going to DeVry?
Do not let what others think of the world of for profit education (people like this Camden) bring down what you think of you and what your students think of you. True quality teaching transcends the school you work at and becomes independent in many ways. I used to teach in inner city schools and many people looked down on that (the haters), while others looked at it as applaudable and commendable. I also taught at DeVry, and some look down on that (the haters) and some look at it as how we help those that cannot get into selective admission schools.
Research shows that without these for profit schools students would be left out of a higher education, so until the DOE (the Obama administration was making strides at doing this) figures out how to make some form of single pay higher education (like they should do with health insurance), we are always going to have schools that prey on the less fortunate and abuse the title IV based system.
Keep in mind all students that attend Harvard do so free as it is selective admission with an endowment and scholarship program that is beyond belief. All schools are not (and should not) be Harvard, and all potential employers are not going to be so short sighted that they look at the diminished reputation of the employer rather than the abilities and character of the employee.
Keep your head up and now is a time for faculty to bond together and have a voice outside of just ratings on a paper. Faculty should come together and offer solutions to your Provost (who is a Marketing guy with no previous academic experience by the way) versus waiting for their solutions to hit you on the head...what do you have to lose but a job you will eventually lose anyways.
If the University of Phoenix says "we rise" then DeVry faculty should say "we resist." Never Surrender!

I had no problem with DeVry on my resume. However, I was intent of getting out of higher ed, so that may have contributed to it.
I left DeVry on my resume and I've received multiple calls for interviews over the last couple of months. I've already accepted a new position.
I started with DeVry on my resume. And it was like crickets: no calls for interviews, not even a thanks for applying outside the auto-generated emails that some places send out. I changed my resume, switching to Adtalem instead of DeVry. And I started getting calls for interviews from local colleges and two companies who do basically what our IES does except for large, well-known schools. I am just speaking from my experience but using Adtalem got me at least some call backs and some interest. Seemed no one wanted to touch me with DeVry. Hopefully it will be a while before they can ruin that name too.
I put Adtalem instead of DeVry because technically it was true. Then in the interview I explained very briefly Adtalem was DeVry under the new name. It's getting to the interview stage with DeVry on it that was the problem. Once I updated it then I was getting the callbacks.
It's not an asset in general, but you're right: a big hole will only beg questions and place you in a more awkward light. I led with my DeVry experience in my interview as a strength. If you were full-time, chances are you worked much harder, longer, and under many more politically and educationally fraught circumstances. If nothing else, those experiences honed your work ethic. Make your time at DeVry work positively for you--it was not for nothing that we all struggled to do our jobs to the best of our abilities in the context of a disturbing managerial hierarchy, insufficiently-skilled students, and predator mentality on all sides.
