Rehiring of laid off employees

Anyone know of any employees laid off in downturn who have been hired back as permanent or contract?

Early retired thru Severance Program in 2016. Fully vested, proud 2nd Generation Retiree.

My last decade at Shell Deepwater, worked with a large number of former Shell employees that returned as Consultants or SME’s (Subject Matter Experts) in SOI- Maintenance & Integrity Org. Safety matters. Yes, there was a bit of jealousy knowing they “came back” writing their own ticket with BIG Dollahs....

The first 24 years of my career were thru Finance or IT Services for Finance. I never saw former Employees come back in any capacity. I recall a few times that former Shell came rehired to other organizations with new/different skill sets.

Peace and best of luck.

I am a contractor. 11 months here.
I like it here.
I hope I get hired.

Shell stinks. They protect managers and unproductive stiffs. If you are a strong, competent individual who can deliver, don't work for them. They will treat you like dirt.

Doesn’t happen. Same with retirees. Used to do that years ago but not anymore. Motiva has similar benefits and culture but no longer part of the company so you could probably go there. But if you retired or accepted severance then can’t come back without an EVP level approval which is rare.

ALL companies now have learned that the HB-1 worker is cheaper and easier to manage over the post 50 employee.

This is the unwritten rule of today’s business.

At some point they will cross that age bridge.

Won’t happen. I’m yet to see managers laying off managers at Shell. I have done work for other companies in my long career and only seen this here.

I put in long hours for this company to help achieve its goals, was rewarded for it by my bosses. Then oil price went south, the Big Ben decided to move my work to a cheaper location so I had to go with a nice packet. Thank you Shell. I am never comung back even if I could.

I'll look into the hire-back clause in my package. Thanks much for the heads up.

there are tons of other companies who treats their employees better and doesn't hire bullies as mid-level managers.

There's no substitute for experience. It can only be gained over time.

In the past, it was also common for staff that had been laid off to be immediately hired by joint ventures that Shell was a part owner in (e.g., Motiva). I don’t think I know of anyone who was rehired by Shell directly into a permanent position.

In previous downturns it was quite common that staff that had been laid off, were taken back as contract staff. Not many if any staff taken back as permanent staff tho.

While I worked there Shell as a whole treated me very well. Hard to find another company that treats its employees as good.

Why would you want to go back?

Blackballed is rejection by ballot which won't happen here. Try and broaden your vocabulary somewhat and be more precise and understand why we use punctuation. Those who ignore the basic concepts of English grammar, for whatever reason, speak a form of pidgin English which you'd find in backwater places like PNG.

If you got the boot unless you negotiated a hire back clause you are black balled
