Thread regarding Shell Oil layoffs

too many reorganizations

shell has been having way too many reorganizations lately...

what have they achieved other than helped get rid of a bunch of employees? which i am starting to think is their only purpose... layoffs with a fancy name attached to them...

there has also been a suspicious number of firings lately that don't seem based in anything but the desire to get rid of employees and save on severance...

don't even get me started on open resourcing system...

It’s about cutting costs. New hires are on different benefit plan with less vacation, hired at lower job grade and no pensions. Also started to reduce severance plans in some businesses. Soon won’t pay as much to people let go and limit advancement to save on what pay ones who stay. Can’t afford to pay staff benefits anymore in post BG merger world.

Wish we had more reorgs to get rid of the dead weight around here! We are only getting leaner and that is a good thing.

If you want job security at Shell, do three things:

  1. Work AT the asset.

  2. Produce in a manner that addto the bottom line

  3. Be fully mobile

Bless you Ben. I am richer with the severance and have a new job that values my skills.

This isn’t capitalism. It’s cronyism with a skirt.

I thank Shell for making me redundant by moving my job to India. Left with a tidy severance package and landed a higher paying job with growth potential. Best thing ever to happen to me career wise.

It's a fact there are those who have an abundance of time to fill and simply manage up and use aggressive tactics to manage down.

Wow, this is capitalism at its most raw and analogous to throwing people out of the lifeboat. Goodnight Vienna and good luck!

Paying severance is a very expensive business especially for the longer-served. Aggressive management techniques suggest looking for ways to avoid paying it and seeking out any kind of an excuse to fire someone. This certainly helps the bottom line and it's legitimate. Ethics doesn't come into it.
