Thread regarding Micron Technology Inc. layoffs

Is Boise Facility going away?

I am a recruiter for a semiconductor company. I do not work for an agency but a company outside of the Boise area. I had one of the employees there contact someone here and tell me that they were moving everything in Boise overseas? I don't see any comments about that so I am wondering if it is true. If so, I may need to make a trip to Boise soon to talk to Micron affected employees!

Please let me know!

Thank you in advance.

the news is already out there - new big plant in Asia (singapore), my old colleagues who stayed (at the director level) are now getting packages to leave. People, boise will be a shell of R&D and TAX credit only. all mfg will be in asia. period. the economy is great so folks should be looking at new jobs - or as i personally recommend new careers that are not in mfg or tech.

Folks, everything is going to change in this company over the next couple of years. This is brand new leadership. The ways of doing things here will never be like they were before. Don't forget layoffs are ongoing. This is a different company!

While most of those affected will be hourly, Micron will use this layoff to get rid of sallaried employees as well.

Micron will never tell their employees that they are moving their operation overseas. That is a topic that will be hotly denied until you show up one morning and your supervisor says" can I talk to you in my office for a minute"? Everything is going to China Is Micron the only company that won't? If you are in your 40's or 50's and still need to keep working for a while you would have to be crazy to not at least explore other opportunities now. There is no job security in the Tech business. None!

As we have been told Boise operation will retain a presence within the company. The Boise site, however is reducing their lower end hourly employees and those jobs are all going overseas. It is cheaper to have those jobs done in Asia. A much more specifically skilled, college educated work force will remain in Boise primarily for R&D. The current layoff will continue through at least 2018. It is not over! That is what I have been told by my manager.
