I'm excited about Amazon and have been closely following the 2nd headquarter frenzy. Before I jump ship can someone give me the inside scoop?? What's it like, is there stack ranking? I don't mind working hard as long as I am gaining real skills and work experience. The only thing that would deter me at this point is GE stack ranking annual/quarterly culling etc so if this exists in Amazon would love to know about it.

@QkL0gGo-ghur - agree w/this post...it's a lot like Microsoft, coming form those who have made the loop between the two firms. And, that level of incompetence is really hard to deal with, especially when the compensation is grossly above many others far more talented and skilled. This creates internal waring that is really ugly, makes for an unattractive company to join - despite being recruited to and offered to join multiple times in my career, and this is what creates the bubble. While the internal incompetents are living in a complex labyrinth of manufactured and worthless processes and evaluating each other constantly on how well they CONFORM to those processes, real talent has to be hired in order to get the stuff out the door, get the work done, fix problems, etc. These real workers are often paid less than the inbred, longstanding family and don't remain for long as who would.
For the sake of shareholders and the services that are so ingrained in our modern culture, I sincerely hope they are able evolve to a better Amazon.
They have a stack ranking that is a lot harder than GE - e.g. GE's bottom 10 is usually super obvious non-performers, those who are really not a cultural fit (unhappy, undermining, bad attitude that does not change after many chances, etc.) and those who steal from the company. Amazon has a similar culture to Microsoft where you are stack ranged every hour and many provide feedback to your boss about you all the time about anything and everything. It's a strange strange culture - like the show survival.
Some areas are growing too fast...
Stay away!!! Amazon is going to cull a lot of employees in coming years. The hiring bar has decreased a lot in some time because of which the company is not what it is supposed to be. Too many politics too much red tape. There are some orgs which run like family-owned business. Husband hires unqualified wives. It is not what you want.
