Yes no job is safe. Stop the panic, if you are still employed, stay focused. And please, no predictions. If you have facts, talk. Otherwise no need to panic people. Work, get paid, and keep on. Yes, they will dowsize, they have too. That's expected. Its happening and will continue. End of story.

Just answering the shrink question:

Close some of the run down F.C's, build a new one with the proper technology/processes/design and eliminate all the bad apples... Too many disgruntled people!

Change the Co. name and start over.

Simple...No need for headaches.

I would give you details but you would have to understand the FC process to undertand how shrink happens in the first place. No time for that!

Just do what you are already planning to do and do it quick.

Like removing a band aid!

Swifff.

:I lived the Staples Business Advantage Saga, but in my time there I've experienced and observed:

:No Retro payments when the staff was entitled to it

Don't know what kind of retro payments you were expecting, but, it never happened and never would.

:Poor Preventative Maintenance

The mentality is, it's cheaper to pay to fix it than pay for a PM program, be it from leasing a building or office equipment

:Supervisor Training is none existing,(Sink or Swim Mentality)

All training ceased t exist probably 5 years ago, from the AM level all the way up

:Expected long hours, (To accomplish a metric)

Of course, it's numbers, numbers, numbers

HR is useless (Speak to them and you are labelled)

:HR only does what the executives tell them to do. My manager had a file that was thicker than War and Peace, yet, he was consistently protected

High Shrink

:Ooooppsss that box is missing, make the customer prove it, they signed for it! OK....just issue a credit

Unsafe Environment, (Damages is out of Control)

:Unless the company can get a vendor to pay for new fixtures....screw it let break, we'll deal with the WC claim later

Inventory Control has lost control of their Inventory.. Just ask about paper!!

:IC is more interested in watching camera's and who's coming and going. How you can lose a 55 pound box of copy paper is beyond me

Prediction - January huge layoffs... You were all promised a bonus in February? Everyone thinks that Sycamore is going to give these bonuses? Maybe to the executives. They don't have to give anyone a thing! What you will get is that "pink" slip without a severance package that some of us were lucky to get! Staples is going down the tubes. Thanks to all of the upper management, especially Shira who sold everyone out. What a shame, this company USED to be a good company to work for. Step off of the elevators and you feel like you are walking into a third world country! Need I say anymore?

"How does one steal from an FC?" Answer: Easily.

Isn't the better question, "How does one not steal from a Fulfillment Center?"

What are the incentives that encourage theft?

We all know the pat responses for what discourages theft: jail, loss of job, getting in trouble, a criminal record, etc... and yet theft continues regardless.

As humans, we delude ourselves into thinking that the "security" measures we put in place will prevent theft but they don't; they mitigate it. If someone is going to steal, they are going to steal. If someone is going to commit a crime, they are going to commit a crime.

Your answer Post ID: @QiRKGhz-5yue lies in looking at the issue from the perspective of the perpetrator, not the law-abiding citizen.

"Angry Guy"

Hey I thought I was the "angry guy". Someone thinks everyone is "ANGRY" whenever they post something they disagree with. Uses the word ANGRY all the time.... too funny... However my point is simple one. I've been posting that this Turkey was heading south for years. You did not have to be particularly smart to discern this. Ron got caught up in his "stardom" back around 2007. Swerved the company to the political left and REALLY took his eye off the business ball. He never recovered. Shira was little more than a small cog in the wheel back then and fell into a positon she was never qualified for. NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE had or has a clue how to alter the history of this company. So as I have noted for near now a decade, bon voyage... The upper exec's will all likely be gone by March. If you make more than 65,000 ish you will likely be gone too.

Hey was that ANGRY enough for yuh...Truth is not angry or nice. It's just truth.

Post ID: @QiRKGhz-4mly "Yes. I reported to a direct report of hers, but he got canned, too".... What? Shira Goodman got canned?????

No. Shira getting canned would be a Thanksgiving miracle. I meant my boss was let go as was I. The proper use of "too". If you want to see it used improperly I suggest you look at FM's twitter feed. Not only does he not know IT, but grammar stumps as well, or "too".

"What I do have is a keen sense of how the world works." And a hugely inflated ego and sense of self-worth. Troll, you must be in Staples management. Nobody else where's the a$$-hat that well.

Fellow "downsized" employees it gets better. I was in your place last year when "reorganization" occurred at the "Red Stapler". Took a while but I landed a good job with a forward-thinking organization. A little under a year in and I'm still content and enjoying the work.

Take care.

Dear troll, Stop trolling these people who have lost their jobs and are simply venting about their disappointing experience.

I don't have any anger at all. What I do have is a keen sense of how the world works. In a downward trending industry at company going through a transition people are going to lose their jobs. To think that your job is safe is a mistake. To think that people are going to be kept on when their roles aren't part of the go forward plan because of a sense of empathy is just naive and dumb.

“No job is safe in any company in any industry. Provide value that isn't easily replaceable or be let go. Wake up”

Oh boy, here comes the guy who’s always on here and thinks he’s “telling it like it is”. I truly hope your position is not one which allows you to deal with people, because you do not have the ability to discuss an impactful subject with any kindness or empathy. Learn how to communicate and debate respectfully. Let go of the anger.

"Shira assured you that your job was safe?" Yes. I reported to a direct report of hers, but he got canned, too, so I guess there was no one to report to any longer. Maybe Staples US can become Staples Canada. They are actually making money.

Shira assured you that your job was safe? I doubt that. Be pissed at your manager who gave you assurances that he/she should not have given. No job is safe in any company in any industry. Provide value that isn't easily replaceable or be let go. Wake up.

"What, exactly, have people been promised?"

The bonus that was promised in July but not paid since it would be paid in February when I stayed through the merger. Stopped pursuing other jobs as I was encouraged that mine was secure. It was secure until Shira and Co. needed to save more money. Forget the fact that humans are involved. I hope she can sleep at night. I don't know how. Most unethical person, aside from FM, that I have EVER dealt with.

I had no IDEA these layoffs were coming. Shira should be ashamed. Screwing people out of what they are promised. I hope she gets hers in the end. Sycamore if you are on here, she is not a leader. She is why this company is tanking.

Its just a shame that they are no longer publicly traded. Being private puts a cap on all the terminations that they are up too.

I hope everyone that is impacted by this mess lands on their feet.

I also hope that Shira Goodman and her scumbag cronnies feel real pain. They may not now, but they will. You can't just throw folks to the curb and never expect to experienced the pain you have inflicted on others.

Maybe they didn't expect their position to

be cut and didn't see this board or know anything until recently... no need to be rude. I didn't know anything, I guess I should have payed attention but I focused on my giant load of work go figure. Don't know the extent but various regional sales people, few art directors, marketing, merchandisers...(only know about promotional)
