Earlier this year Murthy moved a little known group out from icdg and had them report directly to him. He did this as he hired Qualcomm managers to right the icdg ship.This group is called NGS and they have developed the most advanced 5G modem Intel currently has. Deliberately Murthy ordered this group to cut all ties to icdg and develop their modem using the 2013 Motorola acquired 4G LTE modem. The team was purposefully kept small and solely located in silicon valley hiring externally the best modem engineers in the business. This crack team of experts operating in secret will demonstrate a fully compliant 5G modem at MWC next year.Whilst in public Murthy was praising icdg progress in getting the Apple socket behind the scenes he was shocked at the inability to execute. Having two internal teams compete guarantees a 5G modem for Apple.The future looks promising for Intel but doesn't look good for the losing team.
