I worked for ADP for many years and was let go through a layoff which was aimed at reducing overhead and costs. I led a fairly large initiative and once it was just about complete, I received a push out of the door as a thank you. Note that the cuts are largely cost oriented and folks making what is perceived as too much money are on a target list unless they are have strong political pull in the organization.
In the time I was there, I had about 8 different leaders and several different changes in my organization. The organization is led and managed by Sales with a handful of people with product knowledge. Most of these employees have no clue on how to manage or see through a strategy to success - guilty of having no outside ADP experience to speak of. The place is a joke and maintains success based on acquisitions (i.e. TotalSource), sleazy sales tactics (bribing accountants for referrals and crazy sales commission rates), and first to market. They try new things but give up on them quickly to say they innovate but it's really just smoke and mirrors. Their leaders are shady and shifty with not much more than a high school degree. Leaders mysteriously disappear as a result of shameful behavior that they want to throw under the rug. Check out the disappearance act of the guy who ran Majors a few years ago or some of the Sales Operations Leadership. I would dozens are kicked out for ethical reasons every year. Not unusual for a New Jersey based company but this is a little extreme.
I wish Bill Ackman success in his bid to take control of ADP and try to give it one more good shakedown. Merry Christmas.
