I was laid off by CH2M after nearly two decades with the company with no warning. I was loyal and hard working and one of their best engineers, and yet they saw it fit to unceremoniously show me the door.
I can only assume it was because they wanted somebody with fewer years they wouldn't have to pay as much as they did me. Which means that experience and loyalty that once mean something here no longer matter. It's the almighty dollar that takes precedence over people who helped build this company up.
I still feel betrayed by this, even if it's been several months since it happened. All the long days, extra hours, time missed with my family amounted to nothing in the end. I was expandable. This is not what CH2M used to be about, but I guess times have truly changed.
