Thread regarding Meijer layoffs

Still feeling betrayed

It's been over two months since I've been laid off by Meijer and I'm still feeling betrayed by the company.

Nearly fifteen years of service and spotless record meant nothing. To add salt to injury, my former coworkers told me they promoted somebody twenty years younger than I am to my previous position. He has no experience and he's barely been with Meijer for a year. But I guess they saved a few thousand a yer on salary so yay for them, right?

Loyalty means nothing here. You are just a number to them as I found out the hard way. Avoid this place if you can.

It’s been a year since the first 70 employees were effected at Meijer and ten months since the Infrastructure team was outsourced and another 100 were fired due to “restructuring”. The sad thing is that I didn’t put the clues together when they ramped up IT hiring with new graduates and those with minimal experience. I should have seen it coming, but I had great annual reviews and was rewarded financially. But apparently that made me a liability rather than an asset. I have to make a conscious decision every day not to be bitter. Being in my late fifties, I had a very hard time finding a new position as ageism is thriving in West Michigan. The moral of the story is never assume your job is safe just because you’re recognized as a peak performer.

THis Guy at top is one of the big disgusting , dishonest person to have in the company . No trust any more with Meijer . It is so pathetic and worse to work in such a stressful environment like Meijer IT .

They will learn the lesson, all great skill set will move out and it has begun . No one trusts leadership , who is taking millions as bonus and laying off employees . He has no value answer respect for there employees.

Economy best in 17 years , company making profits , some sales down , but that is ongoing with Retail . But Laying off 50 % IT department And then giving those jobs to Outsourcing company . Does he think employees are stupid .

Sad part is Meijer family is doing nothing. Thy should throw off this guy which disrupted all other companies he moved from .

Company loyalty to employees ended a long time ago. Employees are commodities to be reduced whenever necessary to keep profits up. The concept working for one employer for a full career is long in the past.
