Anybody else noticed how many talented people have decided to leave Genentech lately? Our turnover is higher than ever... I can understand them, way too much infighting and backstabbing going on here lately... It's one thing to foster competitiveness, but the levels to which some people will go to ensure permanent positions... The joke's on them, though, as none of us are guaranteed a job anymore... The management is reacting to the changes in pharmaceutical marketplace by tightening the belt... We can only expect more layoffs...

You're right to say there is no guarantee of a job...there never was! For a person to think that is foolish.
A company needs to stay competitive; a person needs to stay marketable. You do that by making decisions. Sometimes hard ones but you have to.
Amazes me that a person who goes to work can feel upset because a company is down sizing. These are the times we live in. You need todo your job, hope for the best. Nothing is guaranteed...nothing but death and taxes!
They got rid of some really lazy entitled people, but did lose a small handful of goods ones as well. If there are more to come, it is what it is. No point in working paranoid. If someone is so concerned about their job, why aren't they looking for another now instead of waiting? I'll tell you why, because they know it's not easy out there and it's the same elsewhere...NO GUARANTEE!
