Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Wrong people are getting promoted

Has anybody managed to work their way up at Staples? It seems to be mission impossible unless you know (or are related to) somebody in the upper management. We recently lost a guy we shouldn't have lost because he was passed over for a promotion for the second time, both times for somebody who is completely under-qualified. Wasn't really surprised that he was out of the door within a few weeks. No wonder we are doing as badly as we are, considering who is running the company...

I feel bad for current employees that 'haven't seen the light' yet. While you might get a few good managers and associates here and there, they are the exception rather than the rule. It's a business. Businesses are getting totally screwed by increased taxes and regulations. Businesses need to make a good profit to survive so they will lay off, decrease benefits, decrease workers hours, increase prices.

Good luck to everyone.

Can someone help me with this? They is a job that needs to be filled. We will post it for everyone to see. Starting with internal associate's. We already know who we will hire. But we will interview to make it look good. Is this the way It is done in the corporate world?

" remember the good old days of striving to hit "30 x 10" Sadly it looks like it will be "5 x 20""

They could have hit 30X10, but, the f'ed up the CE acquisition and losing a ton of mid-market business. When that went through, the combined business was $24 billion.

Unless you're a certain RVP from the MI area, who kissed a-- all the way up from starting in the warehouse! Than yes, you certainly can climb the ladder at Staples. BTW do they still have that scam of a manager training program in SBA?

Plain and simple - if you are still working within this mess of a business, you should be questioning your inability to see the light and move onward and upward. Give yourself more credit, self confidence and get to a place where you are rewarded for your ideas and hard work. This place hits you "upsidadahead", over and over, rewards the wrong people, and expects you to just bear with it. It is not only toxic, it can be lethal to your health!!!

So if you are just after a paycheck and health insurance, I get it... If you are after a real job, go get one!!

If you have worked in this place for awhile, you wont believe how it feels to work elsewhere!!

Maybe the people you know or you yourself simply s---. Stop blaming other people because you can’t climb the corporate ladder much less a real ladder.

If you're in IT, then the only way you'll be hired if you're an Indian. IT in the HQ is > 90% imported post- pink slip. TCS is 99% Indians. I DGAF where you're from as long as you can do the job. These chucklef*cks can't.

It’s all a game. Happens in most large corporations. It’s not how great your numbers are or how well you do your job. It’s all about how well you play that game. I watched so many people get promotions over the years that didn’t deserve it. Not saying I should have gotten the promotion but other, more deserving, people got passed over. Early in my career I tried to kiss up, be a cheerleader, drink the Kool-aid, etc. I’m just not good at s---ing up to the boss. Some people are born with that innate ability but I’m just not good at it. I quit getting upset about it. Some are more skilled at it than me so I can’t be mad.
