Thread regarding Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) layoffs

Is it even possible for morale to get any lower?

In my over three decades of work experience I've never worked at a place where morale was as low as it is at HPE now. People are so stressed and disheartened that it's become a palpable feeling in the office. It's depressing, mildly put. It's not even just the layoffs, even if they are the biggest part of it. Low pay, no upward movement, really bad benefits, all add to it. Not to mention the fact that our roles keep changing all the time, you never know what'll be expected of you tomorrow. I'm still here because I'm close to retirement and I am hoping to ride it out until then, but I honestly can't understand why younger people are still here. Take it from an old-timer, run as soon as you can.

Never underestimate Upper Management’s ability in making your life more and more miserable each day. They are extremely good at it.

OP - retire and go to a retirement community! You'll find better morale as you and your colleagues play Bingo while waiting to buy the farm.

I started with HP (HPE) when Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard were still around. Back then we had a real feeling of belonging to something bigger than ourselves. I have survived several rounds of Layoffs and none are good. It seems instead of keeping the corporate direction a secret till the last minute and then laying off the excess people HPE management could say "Hay we are going to concentrate of this storage platform now". This would allow others to cross train. It seems they think it is easier to just fire everyone and hire new. We loose a lot of experience that way. Strategically there has to be a better way to move forward.

Well said "Old Timer", well said. For those under 50 ish, run run run, but always keep investing 15% or more, wherever your life takes you. Good Luck to All!

The mood is "waiting for the axe to fall." The worst part of it is, the axe falls in strict proportion to your age, salary, location, "favored" status with the upper bosses, and so forth, and has ZERO relationship to how much talent you have, how much the customers need you, your productivity, or how hard you are working.
