Several dozen positions are posted, check out the careers page for the Washington State University. There are no layoffs right now and it'll likely continue to be like this for a very long time period. Several of my friends work there and I am currently trying to get employed at the university - I'd recommend it to anyone who is looking for some stability in this uncertain economy.
Just look at all companies that are laying off people here on this website, it's crazy how many enterprises are shrinking - from West to East, South to North, no matter what industry, people are being laid off.
This is so much stress it's crazy.
