My personal manager was fine, fair and good to work for. She just got laid off. Surprise, surprise, surprise. Don't even know who I report to now. I have had some good local managers. The overall direction of the company however, is to burn through all remaining goodwill and assets as we move toward shutdown mode. You can thank a few particular people for wrecking this place, and it's not your local managers. It's the higher ups, the untouchables who get the money, new job, and no blame for any of what happened. They wrecked careers and student hopes in the name of short-term profit. Am I bitter? F- yeah, I'm bitter. And angry. I joined this place back when it was good, 15 week classes twice a week. I put decades into it and did the best I could for my students. I still do. Now the education industry is shrinking and trying to get a job while working for a for-profit is like telling people that you like to torture small animals for fun. You must be an unethical piece of S- to work there...you even see that attitude here on the layoff board. We are pariahs in education and the job market. I am trying desperately to find another job. I have been angry. I have been depressed, anxious, and borderline suicidal. I watch this place fall apart due to stupid management decisions and it is killing me. Let's make everyone teach te same exact content--teachers are replaceable! Let's have 8 week classes that only meet once a week and not even consider attendance! Then let's cram underprepared students into those classes! Let's let student evaluations drive any faculty coaching! Let's fire teachers if they get bad evals or can't fill out a compliance form fast enough! After 2016's settlements I am now completely unworthy of getting out, so I will have to ride the final DeVry train into the ground unless they kick me off first. I guess I will have to work at Cheesecake Factory when they finally lay me off. At least there's a good alumni network there.
Excellent and infuriatingly true post by @PtV77sl-rma. Thought it deserved a thread.
