Thread regarding Sears layoffs

SHLD Associates = Humanity

The precarious situation at SHLD sometimes leads to heated discussions on this board. During some of these exchanges assumptions are made, accusations are trumpeted and associates at all levels are derided.

While reading random articles on the internet I came across this story. It was just another sad story until I came across this line, "Les, a software engineer for Sears Holdings Corp." It gave me cause to pause and reflect.

I will not say what Sears store i work but we as ASM's in our store are all looking for jobs, or about to retire, hopefully we all leave about the same time, then our dictator oh i mean SGM will actually have to deal with a customer complaint, delivery issue, installation problem, or a simple manager call at the other end of the store

@1qni - I'm a lead too and work under a terrible store manager. Nobody can stand her toxic attitude. Furthermore she is the epitome of lazy. The zone supervisors and myself run this store without her help. However, she is johnny on the spot to complain or pick someone/something apart.

She takes time off whenever she wants to without regard to anyone else, but god forbid if anyone asks for time off. That's asking for too much. I think the reason why she doesn't want to give us any time off is because she's afraid of being doing real work, you know, actually getting up out of her chair, leaving her office and working like the rest of us do.

I want my old store manager back. She is the complete opposite of who we have now. She pitched in and helped around the store, after the millions of conference calls, paperwork, emails, etc she had to do, just like other SGMs have to do. Never fought or ignored time off requests, if something didn't work out (like a last minute F&F or whatever) she made arrangements for something else. Oh, and she was also a real leader, not an antisocial, negative and abrasive slave driver. Now everyone's running for the hills.

Classic Sears situation. Some years ago a long time Sears employee needed time off because his mother was dying. Sears said ok. Fortunately, his mother survived a little longer and he told Sears he needed a few more days. Sears told him no he needed to come back to work. He said his mother was in hospice and truly only had a few more days to live. Sears told him he had to come to work Monday morning or the store would consider him a no show and terminate him. He chose his dying mother and sure enough Sears considered him a no show and terminated him. This actually was reported in the national media some years ago. I remember reading it and just shaking my head.

My SGM is the same way , he takes almost every Sunday off and I cant even get a weekend off without taking an actual vacation, but if we ask for a weekend off all you get is we really need you out on the floor your team needs a leader, and ( I )meaning the SGM will be to busy with calls and email to be down in your area. Give me a F-ing break, you just don't know how to ring in my area or know anything about the product. He doesn't even rate as high as the paper I wipe my arse with,

@rdi Jesus man the SGM in you store sounds like a piece of sh*t. I am surprise they would let you go for requesting a few days when xmas is around the corner. On my end I have requested days and no beef I think my manager is a biotch at times, but I feel deep inside she has a heart (although she can be a pain in the a--) and also doesnt want to lose their top workers because at this point it be a stupid idea to fire the veterans that know how to run the show.

Most likely. The least family friendly place I ever worked. It was my Mom's 75th birthday, she lived in an another state. We had a restaurant, favors and invitations printed. I blocked the date months in advance but Sears decided to have a Friends and Family sale and refused to give me the day off. Spoke with the manager, did nada, I refused to call in sick and lie so I called and told the truth. Was informed I would be fired when I returned so I never did. Morons, right before Christmas too. Not only did they screw me, but all the people in my department. Feel very bad for the folks who are stuck, get out there and look! SHC does not care about you.

Very Sad story. I hope the father resigned from SHC to be able to care for his children. I wonder if SHC even cared that this fathers children were dying? Or if they expected him to work 24/7/365 a year?
