Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

So Where's My Success Sharing Bonus, Huh?

Okay, DeVry you fired all of my friends, you shorted everybody on raises, golden parachutes the clownish outgoing president who helped destroy the company, you are closing buildings and promoted the genious guy who came up with the stupid scheduling software that helped put the final nails in the coffin. You destroyed the reputation of the school so bad that anyone who works here has a hard time getting a job anywhere else. You keep trying to cut to profitability and it's an uphill battle because you can't attract the students to sustain the programs or campuses. Let me as you again WHERE IS MY F-ING BONUS?!?!?

the toymaster former prez bought an entire panel session at SXSW festival for hundreds of thousands of dollars on devry dime. then he wrote an email to entire devry how he was packing his bags to go to this SXSW to participate with other "thought-leaders" in this panel. never mentioning that all of those thought-leaders and the panel was paid for by devry itself. it was just a show. can be seen on youtube.

There are at least 35 additional location that should be closed based on the average students per class over the past year!

Things will not get better. Money is being thrown away on things that have no bearing on the quality of the education we provide. We just spent a bundle to move a barely-used center to a new, freshly remodeled space in a nearby building. We renewed the lease on another center that regularly has few or no classes. Some campuses are getting new "inspirational" signage that are suspiciously lacking any mention of DeVry or its logo. We're eliminating faculty in programs that currently have open positions that cannot even attract job seekers. Even after students complained about not getting a certain course offered onsite, we terminated the only full-time faculty member who was qualified to teach it. We're specifically selecting the worst managers for promotion while expressly blocking the advancement of anyone who could actually do the job. The execs keep saying that our goal is to attract more students and return to growth and yet nowhere is there a mention of any reasonable plan for doing so. Some us believe that we are being intentionally set up to fail, and the evidence seems to support that belief.

And they cut the health benefits this year, too. Has anyone else realized how bad the new coverage actually is compared to last years? How much value did that create for the shareholders vs. how much misery it created for the employees? You can owe up to 10% out of pocket and the deductibles are higher. You need a second job just to cover the gap in the insurance if you have a family

I don't expect things to get better. They keep promoting the most incompetent. It's like they are determined to run what was once a good school into the ground.

Well said, OP. That perfectly sums it up.

My former dean thinks DVU will be completely gone in two years at the latest. My SSA friend thinks we can last about four more years if we close all of the smaller locations ASAP. We should start taking bets.
