Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

Productivity is down, morale is down

None of our teammates are doing any work, every body has heard the rumors about layoffs.

Its so hard to focus and work, also look for jobs.

I have been interviewing, I hope I can an offer soon and leave the company.

The morale is really bad at work.

Do managers expect us to keep working normally in this period?

I am slipping my dates for about 2 weeks, is that ok?

Same here, @PgXXsSV-boig. Everybody is worried, productivity and morale are both down, the atmosphere is worse than it ever was. Hopefully we'll know soon.

Upper management don't seem to care about improving productivity or morale at all. They just have to handle the inevitable layoff in a sneaky way, as if keeping it a big secret will benefit anyone in any way.

Seriously, how hard is it to act affirmatively on a layoff plan? They don't have the list ready months ago? Or they never realized market numbers are bad enough in past months? How long do they think they can ignore the elephant in the room?

If they cannot properly lead the company in a right direction, at least they can do the decent thing by speeding up the layoff with a good severance package, so that some of our friends don't have to be jobless in holiday season.

@Ps3uMrX-hjkv Not sure about you, but when that's your mindset then that means there 's clear uncertainty and lack of motivation. In your place I'd get ready for the next job, where I'd feel like getting up in the morning and going to work. I was in your shoes for a while earlier this year and then I did exactly the same: resigned and got myself a new job since beginning of the month. Happy and relaxed now...till the next phase of stress - in this industry that's a periodic certainty.

It is still haunting productivity at work, just don't know what to do. Do work or get ready for the next job.

Not seen this at all. The rumours are just that. Rumours. People need to get a grip.

Seriously? I know at least four horribly bad managers at Juniper who voted for that clown. At the risk of being accused of profiling, I feel they do exhibit common traits, and think alike.

Juniper needs a VP of HR who is not affraid to take the bull by the horns and address the ailing issue. There are VPs that interview their teams to determine who said what on the (anonymous) climate survey. There are leaders and decision makes who focus on nothing but their own personal growth. There are projects and teams that get under funded, despite corporate goals and aspirations - only because someone has selfish personal goals or aspirations that conflict. These are not hard problems to solve. Honesty, in business, is the foundation for success.

Start by hiring honest CxOs and VPs who won’t lie to themselves and believe it’s true. The rest will follow.

Time to bring in Donald Trump to fire all these "bad" Managers, VP, Directors, and anyone from higher ups! Drain the swamp at Juniper!

People don’t leave companies, they leave their (bad) managers. Period!

Look around you and observe the worst managers. They are most likely...

1) managing people for the first time, with no (people management) training whatsoever

2) got promoted because of who they know, and not, what they know

3) helping to fulfill a minority quota, or some other convenience for HR

4) career builders, who couldn’t care less for their employees, their productivity and contentment, or if juniper succeeds

There are many bad managers around you at Juniper right? I see them all over. Across the board. It has now become the norm. The work environment and culture is built around many of these types of creeps - from Managers, to Directors, to VPs. It wont change in mid-October. Not with a layoff less than 10%. A real cleanup, that brings Juniper back to where it needs to be heading is a much bigger cleanup of Managers, Directors and VPs.

So, if you look at the flip side, right now, it is a game of survival, for everyone. The poor performers, and these cronies alike. Some are scared of the layoffs, but they all feel trapped. The title and compensation is too good, so its too hard to think about leaving. Some even know they are likely to get de-commissioned. Re-orged. Cut. Bamboozled out of a job. The stress is at an all time high.

Here’s a clue: If your manager(s) are being rude, arrogant or publicly humiliating you or your team, chances are they are acting out of insecurity as much as immaturity, Incompetence and the Inability to manage and lead effectively. They probably already know they are going to face a crisis.

The bottom line is, Juniper needs productive employees, and not lousy managers, lousy directors or lousy VPs.
