Thread regarding John Muir Medical Center - Walnut Creek Campus layoffs

John Muir is nothing like it once was

Oh yes.... Another round of layoffs, all while "out tasking" some (for now) ITS support to India. This company is nothing like it was before the suits laid off the old guard of ITS some years back. These new executives preach that these layoffs are required for JMH to continue serving the community, but in actuality they're trying to compete with Kaiser and Sutter which are completely different business models.

Once all of the workers bees have been let go, the only staff left will be the brown nosers and "thinkers" responsible for this conundrum.

Agreed, @Ph7Z0pG-7xic. I am about ready to leave on my own, because the place I once worked at is now unrecognizable.

I've stayed on in ITS, dodging the layoff bullet once. Now stuck in a position here with no upward mobility. They're basically playing a waiting game, hoping I will quit from frustration.

They let go of hard working ITS Analysts but keep non-technical directors who make over 200K/year, and what company has both a CIO and ACIO ...

I'm not nor have I ever been an employer of John Muir but I've had several family members treated there so I hope the level of care doesn't suffer. I have however worked in the IT industry for 30+ years so I know where you're coming from. I was fortunate to have worked along side the VERY best and brightest minds in the industry. People who helped mold and shape what is today the primary method for communicating, interacting and information sharing medium in the world today...the internet.

What disappointed me as my career wound down to being displaced by outsourcing to India was these same brilliant people were put out to pasture long before their time just for the sake of a few bucks. The irony of offshore outsourcing is that 9 out of 2010 times the product or services that was outsourced just as a cost saving measure ended up costing more because the talent and the work ethic practiced was far lower than those people let go. And to add to the irony, the service or product eventually came back onshore.

So if I can offer you all any advice it's to take solice in the job YOU did and reinvent yourself continually so you make yourself as invaluable as possible

These layoffs are not for the community. These layoff are to reduce expense by laying off tenured and older staff typically at higher salaries and benefits. This is about "profits to invest back in to services" but really incentives and bonuses for leadership at JMH. Since the affiliation with UCSF, they are now taking a play from UCSF's playbook and outsourcing IT jobs to India. This is also not community focused. As UCSF is finding out outsourcing is ineffective, unproductive, and expensive. JMH will experience the same outcome. Those that will be negatively impacted will be the remaining staff, nurses, physicians, and patients...and our community.

So glad I retired from ITS when the new regime came in. I keep up with what is happening and it is so sad that long term employees are no longer valued.
